Let me preface this with the fact that I've never used a Clay Bar before.

So I did the hood, front fenders and the tail gate on the Expedition yesterday.

There was SAND being pulled into the bar when I was doing the tail gate! HOLY [censored]!!!!

Well of course after the bar and then a wax, the rest of the truck looks like absolute [censored] compared to these sections.

I cannot get over how smooth the paint feels, it is like glass!

I did two of my fleet last year. It does one heck of a job lifting dirt etc. off paint.

I never bothered with clay baring until I started to using Zaino. I now find it imperative to clay bar any car before detailing it. Makes a huge difference.

It's kind of pathetic that you can't just buy clay bars by themselves. With Mother's, you have to buy the bottle of Showtime with it.

+1 on the excellence of clay. The biggest issue is time. Other places sell clay by itself.

I personally think my technique is probably bad, I probably wait too long before folding or re-cleaning. I do have a clay cleaning solution which seems to work well.

What is the life of clay once used the first time?

Store it sealed in a plastic bag with a squirt of your favorite claybar lube, and it will last until it's too contaminated from use.

You can, even from Zaino but gotta pay shipping. Ebay has 200 gram bars for under $10.

I recently clayed my car which was sitting outside daily since last year and protected with Zaino. I picked up about zilch with the claybar. Zaino kept almost everything from sticking.

Some pics:

Unfortunately, she picked up a bit of dust since yesterday

I usually break the typical bar into about three pieces. I find that the horizontal surfaces collect debris much faster than the vertical surfaces, so I don't do all the vertical surfaces every time. A third of a bar will easily take care of all the horizontal surfaces for me, though my cars are garaged.

Agree with above as to storing in a Ziploc witha few sqirts of lube. I've had it last several years.

There is another reason to cut into multiple pieces -- in case you drop one on the ground.
