I would vote for the Dodge 318

I'd second that. My Dads old Plymouth wagon with the 318 ran forver and then some. Then we sold it to the next door neighbor and his daughter used it to commute back and forth (daily) to nursing school (a 90 mile round trip) for 3 years, and then he used it as his "work truck" for several more years after she graduated. It was still one of the quietest engines at idle. It lived it's life on Pennzoil 10w40.

Our church also had 4 Plymouth full size passenger vans (various years) all with 318's in them, and they got driven *hard* (what can i say, we are methodist) and seemed to be bullet proof as well.

Oh my....It's my 1,000 post. I feel special. Yippeee!

^^^I had a slant six in a 1977 Plymouth Volare'. I maintained it well, and it got 23 mpg on a trip, 17 around town. Not too bad for its time period. No problems ever with the engine, trans or rear (but the rear clunked pretty bad when I got rid of it so I would assume it was on its way out).
