Where I work, we have a fleet of Chevy Astro vans. The owner doesn't get rid of them until they reach 200,000 miles. During this time, we never had an engine failure. Oil is changed every 7,500 miles. We go thru at least 1 transmission per truck to get to the 200,000 mark. Other issues are the starters, idler arms and the vacuum line that connects to the vents/heater adjustments.

Many years ago, I purchased a beaten up old S10 Blazer with 240,000 miles. Per the prev owner, the engine was original, but the transmission had been rebuilt. The thing looked like **** , leaked oil like a seive (no smoke out of the exhaust), but ran great. I had a mechanic check it out, and I was told that it had over 8 oil leaks, including the main seal, and I was advised not to take action on the leaks. so I just kept a lot of cardboard on the garage floor.

After a year, I gave this vehcile to a needy person, who drove it for antother year until the transfer case crapped out.
