It was "wrong wheel drive". It was rather large and heavy. Roughly the same size as the V8 powered 3rd gen Camarobird and Fox body Mustang. But oh, was it fun. Get the boost needle wiggling around in the red, somewhere I guess around 8 or 9 psi and the car would rocket away. Stuck pretty good in the corners too. And the T-Tops added to the open air motoring fun.

I had a Shelby Z with some direct connection mods. Head, comptuer exhaust. As I recall that thing was awesome to drive.
Man I miss that car.

Bentley Arnage T, breathtaking performance out of a palace on wheels. Most surprising.

Also it was the only car that ever made my S class feel cheap, never felt like I was going downmarket getting into that thing until I drove the Arnage.

Probably my old 1999 Hyundai Elantra once it was finally kitted out the way I wanted. It might not have been that fast, but boy did it ever handle well! And it was a manual transmission station wagon. Talk about useful and fun-to-drive all in one package.

My 2010 Lancer Ralliart is extremely fun to drive. There may be more fun cars to drive in short bursts, but the Lancer Ralliart is also a good daily driver.

'63 Corvair, similar reasons as the Beetle. You did have to be careful to not over do it in the corners, the tail end would come around in a hurry...

BMW Z3M Roadster

Great cornering, enough torque to break the rear wheels loose and terrific sound from the straight six at redline.

Austin Healy replica. Ultra lightweight (2950) with 550 hp big inch roller small block. 5 speed and 4.56 gears.

Spent a lot of time sorting the chassis, and finally have it handling as nice as it runs in a straight line.

Probably makes some of the most intoxicating sounds an old motorhead can handle.

My old miata. The tranny was awesome and the thing handled like a slot car. I used to take that car to quite a few lapping days. Sure, it wasen't as fast as alot of the cars at the track, but it would always put a smile on my face around the corners.

I really enjoyed my Bugeye Sprite and TR3A, but unfortunately sold them long ago. For long trips on mountainous dirt roads, I enjoy my Grand Cherokee, but The Corvair is my daily fun, not only for the clean driving experience, but all the looks and questions I get.

Don't laugh, but I have to go with a 98-03 Escort ZX2. Simple mods can make it stupid fun to drive and still get over 30 mpg.

My previous 2004 WRX wagon with 4 winter tires was a hoot to drive on wintery and gravel roads.

In high school I really enjoyed a 1984 Rabbit GTI I owned.

btw we used to do that to mine in high school

Fun to drive to me is more than just big power and cheap thrills. It's about the whole package. My brother's supercharged '99 Corvette has a ton of power, and you can barely shift it fast enough through the first three gears to keep off the rev limiter. But the rest of the car is lacking. The interior is not high quality, there is zero steering feel, etc.

I'd rather have a "balanced" car, one that is fun to toss into corners, one in which you can feel what the steering and brakes are doing, etc. The Mazda Miata gives that to me. I think a Honda S2000 would also (I'd like to try one one day). I've owned a few cars that I've genuinely enjoyed to drive. My '07 Corolla was a blast to drive. The steering was weighted perfect for my tastes, the ride was a great balance between comfort and traction, with good tires it was very neutral on 2-lane switchbacks, and the manual transmission made it that much more fun. My '08 CR-V is as much fun to drive, but it does lack the manual transmission. The engine just purrs, the steering has perfect feel, the brakes are light to the touch and strong, and it even has respectable weight distribution for a FWD-based chassis with the RT4WD system on board (57/43 as I recall).

My dad's owned a suped-up '92 5.0L Mustang, and my brother has a super-fast '99 Corvette. And they're "fun", but I like more than just a quick go-pedal.

A late 80s Jaguar XJ6 is a fun car to drive, mostly for the solid feel (feels like a tank compared to the Jeep). The Jeep is fun in it's own right, but certainly no sports car. It's quick, and has decent road feel, but even though it's willing to try in corners, and doesn't do too badly, I just can't get past it feeling nose heavy on turn-in.

I'd love something like a Miata or 1st gen MR2 as a 2nd car though.

My '91 Trans Am convertible w/stick was fun to drive, but was somewhat cramped and pretty flimsy overall. Looked sharp though. So I sold it and bought a '79 Caddy Coupe de Ville. Rides/drives great, and has plenty of room inside. Plus, it has an 8-track!

MX-5 Mazda Miata ('07). It was a 6 speed manual and made me smile every time I got behind the wheel. Balanced amounts of power and handling. That thing was a dream.

We're talking about fun in the front seat, not the back seat!

My Dad's 1990 Miata probably is the most fun car I got to drive often. Oversteer, understeer or neutral handling was up to you and your inputs.
My Neon is/was pretty fun on the Mosport driver development track, anoth guy in my club has an evenly matched car and we took turns leading and following each other. That's the most fun I've had actually driving, we were really battling hard and I got an appreciation for real racecar drivers, as for how hard it is to figure out your fast lines, while learning where the other guy is faster and then see if you can match that speed for that section. Both of us were sweating buckets after a 1/2 hour of that. I did get a lesson in car prep as well, but that wasn't so fun!

I had a 94 Miata R package w/turbo 385 RWHP and sticky rubber. Very fun car. In fact, just about everything else is a let down. It was not the engine that made that car fun. It was the light weight, the sticky rubber, the instant response and the crazy big brakes. And, it was comfortable too. With tight fitting seats.

It did what I asked, every time. Sold it to purchase an aircraft. I'm really missing the car now.

I keep looking and looking for a valid replacement. Nothing comes close.

my old 1979 Nissan 280z with the straight 6 was a fun car to drive. Snow, Beach, mud, track, that thing went everywhere and never got stuck. The car cornered great and felt like it had a lot of power. might not have much power compared to todays standards, but it scooted right along.

Back in HS, it caught air many times going over the RR Tracks
