Most Expensive Gas Brands

Yeah the big name brand prices are always within a dime of each other around here. Usually Shell and Chevron/Texaco have the highest prices. I'm surprised ARCO (BP?) can sell their "top tier" gas for so cheap.

Here in Dallas all major brands same no Sonoco here, but Chevron, Mobil, Texaco, Conoco, Shell same pricing, I just use Walmart/Murphy that competes with QT and Racetrack.

In my area it seems geographics has more to do with gas pricing than the brand. They all are competitive in any given area.

This is mostly true, and kinda strange... we have a Chevron on a very busy boulevard that is consistently 15 cents higher than a Chevron just 1.5 miles away, in a run-down area. 1.5 miles is not a far drive to save 15 cents lol.

Here in Toronto and the GTA, it's always most likely than not Shell. Their 91 has the largest spread compared to their 87 when comparing the same spread to Esso, Petro, Ultramar Costco and Canadian tire. I pump 91 as my cars call for it, and I've been pumping gas from Canadian tire because their 91 not only has no ethanol but also is the cheapest non ethanol 91 in town. Pretty sure they get it from Shell since their motomaster oils are also blended by Shell. Win win.

The majors here all seem to be about the same, though now and then a convenience chain location will have .10 less for regular.

Since April of '20, I've been gassing up on E0 87 octane at an small independent service station in the city. Right now it runs about .08 more per gallon than the average price at Exxon, Shell, etc. I imagine I get a small bump in gas mileage -- not enough to pay for the extra cost probably, but I'm supporting a local business. And I fancy it's better for the Buick's digestion.

You should see the prices around here. I know of one Chevron station that's a short block away from another Chevron station. Once I was in Southern California visiting relatives. I was told where was the cheapest place, although I needed premium which cost the same at two nearby stations, although regular was considerably cheaper at one. They were both Chevron stations at the same intersection, but at diagonally opposed corners. That was really weird.

The pricing is set both by the parent company, and then by the franchise. Some are willing to make minimal profit on the fuel as long as they believe it will drive convenience store sales where they make far more profit.

Here in SE Washington, it's usually Shell with the highest price. Tons of Exxons, partnering with Circle K, usually has the lowest by around 20-30 cents. Also starting to notice Speedway gas has inhabited the area lately, with prices in the middle.
