Latest reports from ShopperTrac.com say that original estimates of retails holiday sales increasing 3.3% have now been revised WAY down to just 0.7%. The lowest numbers since the beginning of the recession of 2008.

Just more proof that the smoke and mirrors economy that the powers that be want to manufacture is suffering more than ever.

I'm thinking that we are in for a borderline depression by next summer or fall.

If you read or listened to the entire article they talked about various factors, such as Sandy, Newtown shooting, uneasy-ness about fiscal cliff and gift cards. Gift cards are not counted until used.

Try reading the NY Times to get accurate news.

LOL. The New York Times? Bhahaha.
That has got to be one of the biggest propagenda rags in the country.

Of course the media is going to make more excuses.

That won't change reality. A major recession is coming next year.

NYT is called the nation's newspaper of record with good reason.
Where do you get your news from?
Blogs?

The vast majority of the "large" newspapers (and media companies in general) carry heavy biases. A person needs to read from multiple sources to make sure they are seeing all the sides to a story.

One would think so, since ShopperTrak's own press release doesn't match anything that he actually posted:
http://www.shoppertrak.com/news-resource...-sales-forecast

And of course, online sales are up significantly over last year (and ST tracks retail brick and mortar foot traffic and sales). Of course, that will just be disregarded as "liberal media spin", since it doesn't fit in with the Great Depression V2.0 scare tactics..

The holiday shopping cycling isn't the same as it used to be. People buy more stuff online and more stuff right after Xmas. It's not the same reality that it was 20 years ago.

There are few organizations doing real news in the US. BBC, NPR, Al Jezeera.

NYT's David Brooks is a great level headed guy doing commentary.

I went to Wal*Mart this morning aroung 9:30 to buy some Worms & thought it would be packed.

Dead.

Unbelieveable.

I walked to the back of the store in Sporting Goods and passed only 6 people. This is in a heavily populated area.

I like NPR, the WSJ (not as much as I did before the change in ownership) and the BBC World Service.
The NYT is also very good, as is The Economist.
The above are probably the least biased sources of information you'll find in a media world full of slant.

It is clear you are easily influenced by people with talking points rather than making an evaluation yourself.

There is a lot of yellow journalism out there.
