The filter is a little more tricky. During winter months I have the shop service my car and I switch between 2 filters.

The only time I've taken a car for an oil change somewhere else other than my driveway was my mom's Buick at the dealer cause they had a really good deal going. Afterwards while at the dealer I checked the dipstick and saw it clean and shiny and looked down and saw a brand new AC Delco oil filter. That's all that mattered to me.
This has happened in so many states and with so many quick change franchises that I don't understand how anyone would trade with them. Every state AG's office has a consumer fraud office so maybe that would be the place for the screwees to start.
I wonder what is in the bulk oil drums?

In NYS a while ago I was counsel for the State's weights & measures program. We got word that private label oil quarts labeled 10W-30 HD were not as labeled. This oil was being sold by a major hardware chain.
We tested the oil and discovered that it was straight Mobil lub with no additives added. (A 30 weight non-detergent oil stock).
We had the product pulled from NYS and it was most likely sold in NJ and other states since we lacked authority to take the product. I then wrote an oil and fuel quality law and it is now in effect in NYS. The vender of this bad oil did not care and did not want to pull it from sale. Be careful out there.

Oil of the same spec in a barrel is different than what you get in a quart bottle? Come on. The only difference is that the oil from the barrel might be mishandled and contaminated by the people in the shop. But different when the specs are identical. I don't think so.
My trusted mechanic never cheats anyone, charging synthetic price and use semi-synthetic or conventional. He doesn't oil drum, all his oil are mostly quart bottles with few 5-qt jugs. His price on synthetic oil change is very reasonable at $50 for up to 5 quarts and $10 for each additional quart.
For synthetic oil change he always use M1 and he believes his customers like M1 better than other brands. He prefers quart bottles more than 5-qt jugs.

All in the best interest of the vehicle they hope you will trade in for a new one.
What is more assuring to a used car buyer, than to have service records from a dealership?
There is a difference between paying a little more, and getting ripped off.

They were bringing a BMW in some of the video... they take a crazy filter and 6-8 qts of oil

I went to Walmart today.Mobil 5000 was 14 bucks a gallon,M1 synthetic was 26,that was the most i have ever seen it going for.
They had that Royal Purple,I think it was 47.00 for a gallon.
I figure there may be a short time where oil is cheaper.Not yet.

Just think of the drivers, under the assumption that they have M1 synthetic oil in the crankcase, have been extending their OCI to 10K or 15K. If all these vehicles have in the sump is some generic conventional oil, and they are under the assumption that they received M1, there may be some really sludged up engines on the horizon!

If the shop showed the owner M1 EP with the guaranteed 15k extended performance on the label and that owner then decided to ditch the old 3k rule and get the most out of synthetic oil, I agree, there may be a problem, but I bet you they OVERCHARGED for synthetic oil but still put on a "come back in 3k miles" sticker on the windshield. HAHA
