More Honda heartburn.

Make that two. Ours is a 2010. It‘s been as good mechanically as it looks. And for the last three years it’s no longer been garaged. 5K OCIs and it’s only down 1/8 quart, max. The only thing that’s actually gone wrong with it was the starter and the sound system - both replaced under new car warranty. Literally flawless otherwise.

Beautiful- Probably detail it every other day, too ...LOLDoes this have the V6 with VCM?

Danh- Take a drive and see all the Hondas with faded roofs and hoods. Maybe an old GM or two. Went to the Philla car show and stopped to chat with the Honda rep at their display. Said he heard about the seats all day long and Honda knows about it is addressing it.

Don't forget the German cars.
Not to be overshadowed by the problematic American cars!
Then there's the Koreans with their engine problems
o_O
I tell ya, it's just a bad time to own a vehicle...regardless of the manufacturer!
I was looking for a new ride in 2014/15 my marque of choice is toyota....but they had a zillion recalls in those year- quantity over quality trying to beat GM. I bought a accord- ok car, they all have certain issues- crap dealer here.

The more plumbing there is the easier it is to clog up the pipes. I would like a vehicle with minimal electronics. All I want is reliability and simplicity that will get me from point a to point b pleasantly.

When it comes to bolt quality the Euro cars (not the Fiat, rusty sh.. boxes) are superior in every way, they use a lot of high strength fasteners even in low stress applications with a much better plating. I find it is less likely to break a bolt due to rust even on the old timers.

We are all at the mercy of clone looking cars, gone are the days of originality,,look down your street,,seems many of todays cars look like they are related..well this new world is not your dads Oldsmoblile no style these days, imho.. Im old, I grew up when cars did not look the same,,,50s thru the 60s..............................

I love my 02 accord because it’s so easy to work on and I’m pretty impressed with the build quality but i got it used and the automatic that was in it was not the original. Then i recently put another transmission in it. That means it’s on transmission #3 at least. 💀

Second that with paint. Absolutely the worst. That and the super uncomfortable seats and driving position.

I'll give that a third on the paint.
We had a 2006 Odyssey that I bought new.
Guess what color it was? White.
While we liked the van and overall it was a good vehicle, it had the ABSOLUTE WORST paint job that I have ever had on ANY car.

We turned that crap off on the 19 Pilot. If you can’t pay attention to the road you shouldn’t be driving.
Yea you may neve use it, and may not want it, but the insurance is higher to cover repairing it if it gets into an accident because it cost more to replace the windshield and recalibrate, and more to replace the radar on the front. My 2016 EX CR-V is one of the last not loaded down with all that stuff that does not work right and has to be turned off. My sister has a 2018 EX-L CR-V and she learned that you can not trust the lane keeping assist because there are places it screws up and and tries to make her v side swipe a guard rail every time she drives by a certain section of road she uses frequently. And she is smart enough to realize if it is going to mess up one place it is going to mess up some place else that she may not know about that she has never driven before, so she just keeps it turned off. But she pays higher insurance than a vehicle that does not have it would cost.

my '17 Accord have this feature; id say it is the first generation by Honda;

I'm the second owner of it and I bet first owner return it just after 2 years to the dealership due to sensitive driver assist features

bottom line, it is very sensitive on the roads especially two lane loads in opposite directions

people who actually need all that crap to drive safely.......maybe shouldn't be driving at all. Highly distracting and irritating. adaptive cruise, lane changing, etc etc whatever.....
Seems as though you don't understand it or how/why it works. If you drive "perfectly", you will NEVER know it exists in the car.

I've wondered about these safety features and have thought that Honda and other automakers may simply buy the technology from companies like Bosch, MobileEye, etc vs each automaker developing it in-house. I can see both sides though.... Does the supplier keep (full) responsibility vs every automaker having to develop these systems from scratch.

IMO The biggest problem with Euro vehicles is the plastics (including the wiring harness insulation), and secondarily, the rubber parts. At the 10 year old time frame a large number of these pieces start to crack, crumble, and break (at least they do here under the Texas sun). At 12 to 14 they really start looking pretty sad if the owner hasn't kept up with replacing all of the deteriorated parts, and most of these owners haven't because they are usually the second or third owners who don't care to spend the money.

I understand how it works: 1/ I don't drive perfectly, 2/ It was a loaner so I wasn't going to spend the time and effort learning how to deactivate or find the fuse.

I understand what you mean. Where I was coming from was partly from my experience with my older mother when she bought her '19 CR-V and it was fully loaded with this technology. Her main concern was it would overwhelm her and she wanted to know how to turn it off. Both myself and the salesman said don't do that, keep it as a backup. It's been a number of years now and it's not been an issue.... except one time she called me to ask why it popped up a coffee cup in the dash ! 😂 I told her I thought it means that the car felt she was not paying attention enough.

or how about when the EPA found them guilty of removing the OBD-II sensor sensitivity settings in the Civic mid-90s! (96-97) They did this so the CEL would never come on and make their engines look flawless under the EPA's testing. They had to extended the emissions warranty to something like 10+ years and 150k miles. I got a free catalytic+manifold out of it back in the day! Even when my o2 sensor died, no CEL ever turned on! I had to test it manually with a multimeter, completely dead and no CEL. Yup EPA was correct to go after them.. I'm not one for bureaucracy but in this case, I had to agree!

Or.. let's go back further.. the "secret warranty" they had on the a/c compressors of the 1991 CRX Si (most likely the same compressor for all CRX and Civics of 88-91), so when it grenaded it made Honda look all warm and fuzzy towards their customers even though they knew the part was junk and was just a matter of time before it exploded and died! They could have issued a technical service bulletin or a recall but that would've ruined the reputation as their products are perfect. So they handled it out of "goodwill" but it was really a secret warranty to replace the entire a/c system after the compressor had shot metal debris throughout the system.

This has been going on for awhile.. yes for the most part the Honda's back then were reliable but let's not fool ourselves any longer that they were perfection. And yes I lived all this.. not second hand info..
Glad to see that other people had problems with “quality” Honda’s.
One of the worse cars I ever had was my 1990 Acord EX. Purchased new. Nothing but problems on problems. Dealer attitude was “This is a Honda, and Honda’s don’t give problems”. Car was made in Marysville Ohio on a Monday or Friday. Traded it for a 1992 Camry LE, made in Japan.

I get what you're saying, not that you were happy I had problems, lol.. Just that it's a reality that NOTHING is perfect no matter how much hype something gets. It's the nature of this world we live in. I am not giving a pass at all for Honda's behavior. But I'm glad this thread was created, it shows the real story of Honda's behavior over the years. And yeah don't even get me started of the arrogance Honda dealers have.. I've had better treatment at a Porsche dealer! Even BMW!

And yes that arrogance of Honda dealers is why I never bought another.. Yes I do have the "Project Civic" car currently that I have now and I've repaired it to a level that I know is reliable. A mix of aftermarket and Honda parts got it to that level over a couple of years.. But I'd never go back to Honda seeing what they've turned into today. Now my Scion (toyota) is a whole other world or universe in terms of quality, it's not perfect but when looking at both Honda vs Toyota, I can clearly see Toyota's are designed with much better quality.. If I had to buy a new car it would be a Toyota, it's not even a question.
