Hello,

Now my wifes BMW 328i 2007 has some weird noises...

I have weird noise when accelerating and when parked and I rev car up ...
It makes this growling noise like marble in the engine only between ~1200 ~1800 rpm warm or cold any idea what could be the issue .. ?

Thx

Why are you accelerating the engine unloaded? You could be causing all kinds of resonances, messing with bearings that arent designed to spin so fast, etc.

No indication of this noise when properly loaded and driving?

If you walk around the car parked in the right RPM range, can you ID where the noise is coming from?

Re-read his post. I believe he gets it either while driving, or while revving it in the driveway?

Yes both .. While accelerating and parked ....
Thank you.

Its sounds like its coming from engine ..

Sounds like rod bearings are increasing their clearances. Have you been using a BMW approved long life oil in the proper viscosity?

yes .. only GC or BMW oil car has 30k KM so its hard to believe that's the case

If you hear sounds like marbles dropping/hitting a thick metal plate, it's usually caused by preignition. Are you loading up with bad fuel? Try another gas station and make sure you get fuel with the minimum required octane. If that doesn't work then its time for a trip to the shop.

Could also be the VANOS system as mentioned by OVERK1LL. Factory quality or better oil filters? Some inferior filters shed fibers into the oil galleries and cause restrictions. The reason detonation does not come to mind is because it does it on a cold engine with the vehicle sationary which is a light load.

Try to better determine where the noise is coming from. Front of the valve cover? Likely the VANOS units.

I filled up some Canadian tire gas like 40 liters and I had 20 Esso both are 91 premium

Test it by warming the engine and drain the oil and replace with 50W and listen for diminishing noise. Replace with proper oil before a cold start.

Do you advise against rev-matching on downshifts?

Depending on in-service date it may still have some of the four year warranty left or since it is close BMW of America may goodwill the repair if it is something serious.
