More Belt Issues

So I have these new Dayco belts on and they've solved the squealing issues. They grip like a racing slick.

BUT, after less then 50 miles of driving, the cord material on the outside near the back side of the belt is fraying so bad, I don't trust these things at all! I've inspected all the pulleys and there are no burs or anything, and both belts are doing it. Blatant manufacturing defect.

I'm taking them back and getting a refund and going to the dealer to get OEM Mistoboshi belts.

Has anyone had a brand new belts just basically fray and fall apart?

What vehicle are you experiencing this with?

I thought you had a Geo Prizm/Toyota Corolla. Is it that one?

If so, check that your harmonic balancer is still good. Mine failed and the pulley was walking off the rubber part.

It was making the belt walk off a pulley and flip over.

I don't know if a failed A/C clutch took out the balancer or the balancer took out the A/C clutch, but both had to be replaced before all was well in belt land on my car.

So if you have a similar car, it wouldn't hurt to see if you have a similar issue.

Yea, I have a Corolla.

I checked the balancer/crank pulley and it looks fine. No excess wobble and the rubber is in tact, pulley alignment is perfect etc.

I had the belt off to look at the balancer, and upon further investigation, it looks like it was a sloppy job in cutting the belt. It's starting to fray and there's small fibers sticking out.

I've never even seen a belt with lots of mileage look like that.
