Mopar Mo-090 cut open

Roughly 4500 miles. Pennzoil Conventional 10w30. I'm very impressed with the straight pleats.

The cut on the upper right corner is from my cutter wheel.

I can't remember if this was an 820s or my previous short run Mo-090.. But this is what I am used to nonetheless. Quite the different between the 2 filters.

Found a picture of my previous Motorcraft and Mopar filters. The Mopar is on the left and has just over 200 miles. (Don't ask

) The one on the right is the 820s that came off my dads truck.. 5500-6000 IIRC.

*Taken last summer obviously.. I've forgotten what grass looks like.

This filter looks much better than the other MO-090 you posted. I think I had a few of them with wavy pleats so I switched over to Wix. The prices of the Mopar filters around here makes them not worth it. WalMart near me never seems to stock their shelves, so the only Mopar filters are at Advance, which are about the same price as a Napa Gold. For the price and availability (Napa is 10 min closer) I go with the Gold or Silver. My dad has a Mopar filter on his '13 Grand Cherokee 5.7L from the dealer, and when I change the oil I will be cutting that one open.

Looks great although I see it popped the endcap off, surprisingly common for Motorcrafts and Mopars.

The last 090 I cut apart looked very straight and even,and no tears.

After viewing factory fill UOA I say OE filters should be high efficiency filters, at least 98% efficiency. Are these Mopar filters high effiency? How about Motorcraft, AC, Toyota and Honda?

The Mopars are probably similar to a Motorcraft at around 93% at least that is the best guess we have that I am aware of of one independent test of a Motorcraft. Motorcraft still lists about 80% IIRC and that would be accurate if they still used the all paper cellulose media they used to, but they don't most of them are now a blend AFAIK.

AC's are made by Champ so my guess would be about 96% which is the advertised efficiency of the STP Champ line. The AC's media appears similar ecore or not.

Honda and Toyota OEM's have been tested very low, about 60 and 50 percent respectively. Lot of speculation as to why.

Wow. With such high wear metals in a new engine why wouldn't the factory install a high efficiency oil filter?

I am guessing this is because the majority of the wear metals are larger than 20 microns and another reason why folks like running a shorter factory fill.

I know with Fords, they do not receive MC filters from the factory. They say FoMoCo and are Champ made. The media resembles WIX Napa Silvers IMO. Not sure where they stand in efficiency either.

I don't know about Chrysler though. Wish I would have paid attention when dad changed the FF on the Rubi back in 2009.
