Mopar 75W85

Is it just corporate greed or is there a reason Mopar 75W85 differential fluid is $50 for a quart?
There's nothing special with Mopar gear oil. Go to WM and get some S-Tech gear oil for your differential and it will perform just fine.

I put Amsoil severe gear 75-90 in both of my diffs. Was going to try and do all Mopar because it’s still under power train warranty but the strike made it hard to find fluids. I was able to snatch the oddball transfer case fluid (it’s not really anything special but the only way to find it in quarts is via Mopar).

Edit: I changed all driveline fluids at 50K.
Front Diff: Felt bad about even draining it. Looked like brand new never used fluid. Will extend that interval to 100k.
Rear Diff: I tow a lot. Generally a 4000-4500 lb trailer with the truck loaded near max payload. The rear diff looked used but not abused. Will stick to 50k on this one.
T Case: Fluid looked very new and only slightly darker than the new fluid. I have the auto clutch case so I will stick to 50k here since it’s not a traditional T case.

Problem is there are at least 3 75w85 formulas from mopar that I can think of off the top of my head. Why who knows. Likely the axle manufacturers are saying use this. And the next manufacturer says use this one. So for warranty and charge back to vendor purposes they have all these random fluids of the same viscosity

Think of it like engine oil different brands of the same viscosity.

With out having them all VOA’d hard to say which is the best like pao or ester or gtl or cheap basic stuff

I would run Valvoline 75w 90.
Good fluid and available at walmart even.
No idea why some manufacturers come out with the odd ball fluid weights.
My daughters toyota is the same 75w 85. Nothing wrong with the standard 75w 90 synthetic fluid

Mopar likes to gouge - I got ZF fluids for half of what Mopar was - just ordered Mopar electric steering pump fluid along with Mopar brake fluid … Ridiculous …

Finally did this today, after some research AC Delco 75w-85 is same Castrol carbon neutral fluid as Mopar labeled stuff for quite a few dollars less as specified for ZF LSD.
