I was over at a Nissan dealership today, checking out a 350Z, and I noticed that they advertise that they have molybdenum coated pistons. Does anybody have any experience/know anything about this? Does they moly do anything (enhance performance, extend engine life), or is it just a gimmick?

A lot of OEM's and some after market companys use coating to prevent scuffing while the engine is breaking in. Eventaly it will wear away. Some companys are useing resin coating wich encapsulate the entire piston and in some cases the rod as well.

Most companys use one of the following on their tiny skirt area: Moly, Graphite,Tin or Zink coating. It noramaly apears as a couted retangle 1 inch high 2-3 inchs wide.

It does serve a purpose but is not anything that would or should make of break a sale!

Thanks JohnBrowning! It won't make or break a sale, I was just dreaming about what I can buy when I get out of college and (hopefully) get a good job!
