Everyone is dicussing the amounts of moly. Why is there no dicussion on the differnt qualities of moly, similar to base stock discussions?

That level of chemistry discussion doesn't seem to occur as often as it used to

No, it doesn't. The folks capable of that level of discussion have had their say, it's there to be searched.

I think they get tired of the knaves. Kinda like lawyers and doctors. They give lots of good advice that knuckleheads continue to ignore, who then (said knuckleheads) go on to promote the old "wisdom" in other threads..

They don't LISTEN!

I think that that Toocrazy2yoo's position has some validity, but another part of the argument is due to the fact that modern moly strategy is based on molybdenum dithiocarbamate. Some formulation have different Mo to Sulfer ratios, but a standard oil analysis will not detect the differences. Except for the amount (which can be measured) and the Mo:S ratio (which isn't typically measured), there isn't much else to discuss. It also seems that the interaction of different boundary-type additives is just (or more) important that any individual component.

Below is a link to R.T. Vanderbilt's current Mo offerings:

Morg!

Cool site. Sounds like they're positioning themselves for the coming GTL age. One without zinc, but rather in need of additives that don't pollute. Moly is the path, yes?
