How do I remove a slight case of mold from the cement block of my unfinished basement? I have some growth by the washer. I read that bleach does not get in the pores of the block and the mold will come back.
They make a moss removal solution that works well with this sort of thing. Also, if you have adequate drainage, could you use a hot water pressure washer?
No braineer. Peroxide. Never use bleach again. You can use it straight from the bottle (3%) I usually use a 50/50 peroxide/water solution.se it on my base3ment block.
You can get a big bottle from walmart for 88 cents. I always keep it around.
Once you remove it, figure out the cause and fix it right. If you have mold in one area, there is a good chance you'll have mold in other areas that you don't see.

They most likely didnt water proof your basement. You will have to seal coat the block. Preferably outside of it or will continue to come back.
I am sure you are correct. But I still would avoid breathing Muriatic fumes (breath oxygen from the peroxide instead). And as you said the only sure way to stop it in the future is to seal the outside.
But if you have no major problems other than this the peroxide will get rid of the mold. It will have to be retreated periodically.
Aside: There are 2 things I will never do in life anymore: Use bleach (peroxide instead) and get frustrated buying ammunition at Walmart (thanks to Bubbatime)
