Do Mobil 1 EP filters compare at all Amsoil EAO filters, in their ability to absorb particulate filtrates, without clogging and loosing their flow characteristics?

I have not seen a true side by side study, but I have never seen anything this impressive from any other oil filter: Fully Independent EaO test

There's that thread. Thank you Pablo.

I lost track of it. I read most of it today, and wow that really is some filter.

How would those stand up to the ARX clean/rinse phase? Would two of them be enough? I want to get all the weird carbon grit, out of my engine oil stream, as soon as possible. So overkill is the word for me right now.

I would not pay for the EaO filter and then only use it for an ARX cycle, even for 5k miles as it would not be cost effective and a waste of the EaO which shines in long service intervals. My advice is to wait to use the EaO later after all the ARX cycles are complete. Then I would use the ARX maintenance dose with whatever oil and the EaO filter. I would rather re-use the same EaO filter for several conventional oil changes than use a new cheapie filter every time. Or, I would go extended OCI with quality syn oil, maintenance dose, and EaO.

Now, if a person has money to burn.....hey, send me some of it!

I really want to get this carbon grit out of circulation fast. You know carbon is among the materials used to polish or even cut steel, and these are some very hard little bits. I would be willing to spend the extra money if it would expedite the clearing process. But I suppose lots of cheaper filter changes is good enough. Winds up being close to the same price though.

I'm with George on this. Having used both filters on the same cars for 3 years now I can say the Amsoil filter is superior to the Mobil 1 filter.

I've seen a small but notable difference in UOA s and in the oil color or blotch test, after running for select & various time periods.

Have also seen similar results when compared to K&N and Pureone against the EaO.

Will be happy when they have a drop-in for my 2.2 Ecotech.

Two (or more) schools of thought here.

In a nutshell:

I think it really depends on your engine "grunge" load. If you have a more than a diaper full of loose stuff, no sense using an EaO for the short "load" time. Use an inexpensive filter and let it get loaded. Then switch over. I think by it's nature an EaO OF in a first time AutoRx treatment of a nasty will load up FAST.

If your car has been through some cleaning before or you know it's relatively clean but just want to free the rings up, etc. Use an EaO. Expensive yes, but effective for the smallest stuff.

Looking at the cost difference between an EaO and another filter as a percentage of the cheaper filter's price, then yes, it does look a lot more expensive. It's what, though, $5-$10 more expensive? I always felt that amount of money disappeared pretty quickly, even over 5k miles, and especially considering the better performance.

I really appreciate your willingness to answer my questions Pablo. Your opinion and expertise is something I value.

I am early into a 2nd ARX clean phase, and this is following the first rinse phase which I began 400 miles early. I really don't know how much grunge is left in there. hmmm Do you think an EAO would be best applied at midpoint during the 2nd rinse phase? Or?

Now I need to arrange purchases, from both you and Gary, because both of you have been very helpful to me. I am thinking filters from you soon, and later some oil from Gary.

Seeing your posts, etc. I would say that would be more than fine.

OK. Thank you Pablo. Can I contact you sometime, in the coming weeks, to buy one or two of those EAO filters?

Hope you have one for my engine.
