Has anyone noticed that the new 5.0l is a little noiser with M1-EP? I have a friend at the shop with a 2011 f150 with 17k on a 5.0l and he changed to M1-EP and it is louder at start up then it was with Pennzoil Ultra 5-20. He rad the M1-EP for 3k miles and change it at the shop and put back Pennzoil ultra 5-20 and a MC filter and quite as a mouse at start up cold or hot. He always used MC filters. I like both oil fine I wonder it it is just the 5.0l that likes the pennzoil better?? I was going to use Pennzoil in my new truck I thought about trying M1 before this issue. Has anybody had this issue???

That has been an argument made by some forever. I have pretty sensitive ears and I dont notice it.

Same here.

I used M1 for years in my entire fleet and noticed some noise at start up. Especially the GM products with the 5.3 vortec ( no longer have any of these) The noise would last for about 20 seconds or so. I switched to PP and noticed a decrease in start up noise. No idea why? I like both oils.

Try Amsoil synthetics, they tend to be even louder. Something about XOM's PAO I have thought

. I better hide now...but really the performance (or wear) of the engine is not compromised in any way. Just use what you like best.

PS: Total nonfactual supposition in my theory.

A small change in engine noise should be hard to pick up by ear without good experience. Human acoustic memory is relatively short.

It does? Huh, I never noticed that.

On the subject of oil and engine noise, I'm confident most of us would fail a double blind test concerning this very issue.....

Very true...

Only engine I've heard that made a difference was a Ford 4.2 V6 in a '99 E-250 van... It got one change of 5W-20 and sounded liked the proverbial thrashing machine when hot(was fine at start-up/cold)... After that it got nothing but 10W-40 and was far quieter...

Prior I never paid any attention to what was used in the engine, only looked to see what was on the sticker after it was noticeably noisier...

No difference from me here.

The placebo effect is fairly powerful, studies have proven that for decades. Or he was just [censored] you. Did you 'friend at this shop' try to sell you on pennzoil because that's what the shop carries?

Friend is such a loose term anymore now that we're on the topic. You should have a lot of acquaintances, but you should be able to count the number of actual friends that you have on a single hand.

No he really runs M1 in most of his fleet, I am the Pennzoil guy. Our shop don't sale either one. And the issue about (Friends) you are 100% right so he is a acquaintance. But the issue with M1 was true. I was the thing is I am considering running Moble 1 EP.
