I see in an e-mail from Mobil regarding Mobil 1 5w-20HM that 2 of their 5w-20 oils are now dexos1 certified. A portent of a switch to 20 weights for GM?

"Three more Mobil 1™ oils are now dexos1™ certified by GM, growing the number of GM vehicles whose owners can rest assured that
Mobil 1 synthetic oil is the perfect choice for their car or truck. Newly certified are:"

• Mobil 1™Extended
Performance 5W-20
• Mobil 1™ 5W-20
• Mobil 1™ 0w30 Advanced
Fuel Economy

Does GM spec any 20 weights for any of their engines now?

I was always somewhat interested as it seemed all of their engines called for 30 weights.

Yes they do now , I have a 2013 Chevy Spark that uses 5w20 and I believe that the Chevy Malibu also requires 5w20...On a side note in the manual for the Spark it says that I can use Ow30 in winter instead of 5w20.

None I'm familiar with, thought they were blanket 5w30 across the board.

I received the same email today. Take a good look and you find the prominent "dexos" label at the top. If you look at the actual spec sheets, the license #GB1B0216015 shows only 5w30 as being under this license. IMO it is deceptive! What do you think? I will take a look at the GM approvals page. Can we get some pictures of the spark?

As a follow up, I checked www.gmdexos.com There are 9 Mobil 1 approvals now on this list including some 5w-20. We now have a wide range of product approved for GM cars. FWIW--Oldtommy

Great, more oils getting approved! I hope the 20 weights are stout enough to be used in the turbo Ecotecs. Surely somebody will use one at some point.
