I thought some of you might be interested in seeing one of these....mobile lounges are used at airports to load/off-load aircraft passengers if there are no gates avaiable or if the aircraft is too high for normal loading bridges.

We own two 1972 models, each with a 6V53 DD as prime power and a 3N53 DD for generator power. Due to new construction taking place at one of our piers, we are borrowing two more from another airport. Mobile lounges are very rare nowadays and only a handfull of airports even have them.

Here is an example of what they look like:

A few airports still use them but only when necessary.

They are awesome and huge and they REALLY scream when those 53's are wound up!

Really? I thought they retired them now that there's the big walkway under the taxiway. I was there about 2 years ago and walked under.

Dulles has their tram system and Cobus fleet in place....they would only use the Plane-Mates now for remote tarmac arrivals or overcrowding and the like.

Not true at all... they still use them to get from terminal D to A. I do it about twice a month.
