..ever met.

I'm being serious about this.

I know a few people that use Mobil1 exclusively. Most of them because they believe that the Mobil1 sticker on their oil cap is not actually paid for by Mobil.

Why exactly do Mobil1 users believe so steadfastly that M1 is the best synthetic oil on the market?

I love it when one of these guys tell me that I'm wrong about whatever I'm saying. I'm just "wrong" because they say so. :D

It's absurd, and puzzling, too.

And the M1 haters are the enlightened ones? LOL

Yeah M1 pays the car companies to put M1 in their cars at the factory. They also recommend that the car owners use M1 at oil changes.

The following companies want engines to fail thereby destroying their hard earned reputations... Some costing well over $100,000!

Acura RDX
Aston Martin
All Bentley Vehicles
All Cadillac Vehicles
Chevrolet Corvette C6 and Z06
Chevrolet TrailBlazer SS
Chrysler 300C SRT-8
Cobalt SS S/C Coupe
Dodge Caliber SRT-4, Charger SRT-8, and Magnum SRT-8
Jeep Cherokee SRT-8
Mercedes-Benz AMG Vehicles
Mercedes SLR
Mitsubishi Evolution
Pontiac Solstice GXP
All Porsche Vehicles
Saturn Ion Red Line and Saturn Sky Red Line
Viper SRT-10

You really believe that Aston Martin, Bentley, MB AMG, Porsche and the rest are bought off by a few dollars per car in free oil? At the possible expense of their reputaions and continued business? Get real

Again, remember not only do they put M1 in factory fill, they also recommend the owners CONTINUE TO USE M1.

If and when these companies start bailing out of using M1 then you would have a point. Until then..... IMO the rest is B S

Think about it. Geeezzzz

No one is saying it is the end all be all. I use it because it has proven itself to me time and time again, is still reasonably priced in my area, and I feel their products are top notch. Sure, the 5w30 is suspect lately, but they produce some great products. Let's all get off this and just understand we all have preferences....and opinions.

But it ain't the "Be all, end all" in synthetic oil.

But some of their grades may be the best. Delvac 1 5w40 for example.....

Stubborn? As I see it the M1 bashers are the ones that start threads that create this kind of cotroversy.

"Mobil Hater" = anyone who doesn't genuflect when in the presence of Mobil, their oil, or their fanboys.

Calling someone a "hater" may sell books for Ann Coulter, but it isn't a very convincing way to win an argument. It's a cheap attempt to paint you opponent as emotional and irrational, nothing more.

Gigantic straw man there...

Good grief! No one is saying M1 will destroy your engine. The topic at hand is "Is M1 the best Syn?"

Since when do marketing arrangements reflect reality?

I suspect XOM pays them well.

Anyone who blindly believes XOM's umpteen million$ marketing bulls*** isn't doing much thinking either.

I spoke with a guy today that did just what I've described, completely in line with every other M1 user that I've talked with about oils.

I'm not bashing M1, or at least I'm not intending to, I'm simply talking about the attitudes of M1 users.

I've used M1 before, and I thought it was a very good oil. I just happen to prefer another brand. And I also can see that the oil cap with "M1 Only" on it is nothing more than an endorsement.

It is an ideal that the loyal users believe in. One brand, one oil that garantees good performance. They believe it and that is a demonstration of a great longterm marketing campaing...not a great product.

I can't argue with this. Paying car companies to put your name on their oil cap works like magic.

Actually, there is quite a bit of disdain for both Mobil 1, and ExxonMobil on this board. Even more so since the recent Valvoline controversy. I started a thread (which subsequently got locked) on the subject. Though it is still readable in the General and Off Topic area.

The term "hater" actually fits the profile of some quite well. They are the people that pop into a random thread and slam the product without any real meaningful input; they simply a bash-and-leave.

And actually, to touch on something I didn't quote, but the topic of THIS thread (I know, there are a lot of Mobil threads) is "Mobil1 users are the most stubborn people I've", not "Is M1 the best Syn".

Indeed sir, I can think of another oil (which I use) that has a very strong (and vocal) following......

There are two kinds.

The people who think M1 is the end all be all of oil but don't know why.

The people who hate M1 just because it's popular.

Not too many in the middle unfortunately.
