Hey guys,

We were doing an oil change on my brother in laws '08 Escalade tonight. I was inspecting the new filter and noticed the media was white!? Is this normal for M1 oil filters? This my first encounter with a M1 so forgive me if this is normal for their blended media...

Side note: the louvers looked good to me

The Mobil 1 oil filters are excellent. I do a 10K OCI but I change the Mobil M1-209 every other oil change and it works. Check my UOA posted recently to see that even at 20K miles the oil filter is still doing its job. I made the comment that based on the lab work the oil and filter could have gone a bit farther. Check it out.

The media usually is the yellowish color like most blends I think. The white media usually signifies synthetic fibers. Your media looks white through the louvers, maybe they changed something. I haven't cut open a new M1 myself to really know but used a lot of them over the years.

This is a Mobil thread Q/A not a fram thread.

OP.. i noticed this as well I installed one the other day they may have changed the media I'll be cutting it open in 5k after the OCI, my louvers looked ok as well.

Dont know why you cant see them...they are linked through imgur...? Last I heard, Mann+Hummel is the mothership...seems like every 6-12 months something changes though.

I always thought a blend would still be yellowish as well, it was definitely not wire backed though.

Sounds good, I would like to see as well.

I went to my WM today and saw the $5 Bosch D+'s, and the new box M1 filters.I looked in one, unsealed box, and the louvers were well opened and it had the white looking media inside the louvers. Maybe it is the same media but it looks more white to me. The box still said synthetic blend. Maybe they blend it differently now. I also saw the $48/5 qt jug of M1 oil. They still had the lower priced M1 like always.
