This is the 10th UOA I've done on this vehicle.

The reason I do extended oil changes and used oil analysis is so we might all learn something, and I find it interesting.

This analysis is about Mobil1 5-30w AP. The oil was 14 mths old, w/14,500 miles. The vehicle is a 07 Toyota FJ Cruiser w/a gasoline 4.0L engine that has 184k miles since new. No make-up oil was added, because it doesn't use any. The vehicle is my daily driver. We live in rural area outside a major city. It doesn't see much city driving.

I put a Parento TopDog V brand engine oil bypass filtration system on the vehicle 8+ yrs ago. This bypass system utilizes one Amsoil EaBP90 filter. The EaBP90 spin-on element was last changed Aug 2017.

The air filter is an Amsoil EaA238(discontinued) element with 113k miles since new. Amslio doesn't make this filter anymore. I wish they did. I blow it out at each oil change. Before suggesting to me that is where the SI is coming from, take note the early results are even worse. Over the yrs, I've looked for induction system leaks and tried 3 different brand air filters elements in hope of reducing the Si/silicon level, all without success. This filter works as good or better than any that I've tried.

Mobil 1 AP is relatively cheap and readily available at WalMart. I liked these results. The additive package had some life left in it, even after 14.5k miles, with a TBN of 2.32. My personal lower limit for TBN is 2.0. IMO, so far I haven't damaged this vehicle, and I'm not wasting as much time and oil($) as I use to.

A couple of weeks after I took this sample, I changed the oil w/Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5-40w synthetic. Mobil has a heck of a rebate program going on thru the end of 2018 on their Delvac products. https://apfco.com/secure/R9722W/ I'm taking advantage of it. It will be interesting to see how this "diesel" oil holds up. I changed the Fram XG8A full flow filter and the Amsoil EaBP90 bypass filter w/new too.

LAB: Oil Analyzers Inc - OAI(Polaris Laboratories)
LAB COMMENTS: Continue to observe the trend and monitor equipment and fluid conditions. TBN base# is MODERATELY LOW. As TBN base# depletes, the ability to neutralize acids is diminished and corrosive wear may occur. Sludge and deposits may form. Silicon is at a MINOR LEVEL. Boron is slightly low for this lubricant. Boron sources may naturally decline with use so this is not a concern.

Old results on left side, newer as you go right

*note* sometimes I go a couple more thousand miles after receiving the report before changing the oil, like I did this time too.

My gas mileage has never varied(20mpg) even though this engine has VVT-I.

What do ya think?

Great looking report and excellent use of UOA's here

It looks good. Thanks for sharing. The sodium sample is a bit concerning but there is not enough potassium to cause a red flag.

Mine is 2wd and always on regular unleaded.
I had a 4wd one for a short period of time, 2007 TRD, it got about 18.5 on unleaded

Interesting to see the Amsoil 10w-40 and 10w-30 both ended up at the 12.7 V100C.

I'd like to see you not touch that air filter for a full run and see if that makes a difference in your Silicon. I believe it's Wildman who has done the test in South America to give us evidence of what happens when people try to clean their air filters.

I wonder if you have ever pulled a valve cover on this engine. One would think it would be spotless inside.

NAPA had synthetic Mobil Delvac 1 5-40w ESP on sale for$22/gal, then subtract the rebates $12/gal = $10/gal, not to shabby. I bought 6 gals for my daily drivers.

NAPA for conventional Mobil Delvac Super 1300 15-40w had it on sale for $59/5 gal pail, then subtract the rebates $35/pail = $4.80/gal. Again not too shabby. I bought 20 gals. My Prevost motorhome has a Detroit Diesel 60 series that holds 10 gals.

Watch for sales then subtract the rebate. Here's the link for the Mobil rebate program that's good till the end of 2018.

You could run any oil in this engine and get nearly the same results.
