Today i was browsing through walmarts selection of oil (very [censored] poor selection at mine) anyways all i need is an oil to run for 500 miles or so in my bravada then i would change it again to clean out the motor.i picked out the new mobil super nlt knowing anything abot the line. i have always ran m1 but i darn sure wasnt going to spend 30 bucks on 5 quarts for the m1 hm just to drain it out again in a couple weeks. so my plan was to run this mobil super and see how the motor reacts. check oil usage, leaks, etc. and then make the final change to m1 hm. i also picked out a cheap ac delco filter just bc id be buying another filter too. i didnt want a fram but im sure there not that much diff in quality lol. what are your guys thoughts on this oil? i know that it is conventional but have any off you had experience using it?

If you always ran M1 why do you need to clean out motor?? Are you sure?? If for some reason M1 did not keep your motor clean you could run anything for 500 miles/even used oil for that matter. IMHO

Sorry for confusion but i have 2 bravadas now. and the one i just picked up has had some abuse.. the oild is black and overfilled. and the guy claims to only use 10w40 in it... so basically i got a big mess to clean up

Mobil Super is a fine conventional. Like pretty much all of the major conventionals. The one thing about the Mobil Super is it has some Ti as an additive, which has some added benefits supposedly.

You would do fine with ANY API SN/SM oil for 500mi. (in the correct wgt. of course).

One of the few good imported oils you can get here in Mexico. Mobil recommends a 4650 mile OCI for severe duty here in the republic after doing extensive testing with taxis here in country. Why not leave it in for a full OCI so it can do some cleaning? I use it for most of my customer's cars and all of my family's that don't use Mobil 1.

Even if you suspect that the engine may have sludge, 500 miles on any oil won't do anything.
Pick up some FAR Valvoline Maxlife Nextgen from AZ or O'Rs and run a couple of 3K drains if you're concerned about sludge.
How does the engine look through the oil fill hole?
Does it look sludged?
Maybe you could lift a valve cover to see how dirty the engine actually is.
It may not be all that bad.
If it really is bad, does it have a LIM leak?
If not, a couple of short runs of any oil should clean a little, and you might then consider ARX, MMO or maybe Kreen, or a teardown.

My Dino preference, it's a great oil. And it's only $1 higher than super tech Walmart brand. You made a good buy. Run it 2-3k and let it do some cleaning on that old engine, I think you'll be happy with it.

put supertec in it up to the max line on the stick, then add a qt of kreen, run it for 2K. maybe a second qt of kreen once the first has burnt off and level has gone down.

Not sure i can post pics from my phone or i would show you guys but today when changing the oil i looked in the pan. (the drain pan) and the oil was very gritty like had specs of sand everywhere and same for the oil filter.. this makes me mad. how hard is it to change oil. i know im new to all the science behind lubrication thats here on the forum but dang its nlt that hard to take care of a vehicle by servicing it. the guy said he changed it "2500" miles ago... maybe 25000. this is definetly a lesson learned to overlook what youre buying and no being afraid to say no. thankfully it runs okay. I believe i made an alright choice with the mobil super. i mean flr the price why not try something new. kind of had a vibe about it so thought i would try it out. and if you guys say it will do better cleaning for 3k miles maybe i should leave it in till then? i figured if i did it at 500 mile again with the same stuff and then go for 3k i would not need any additives. and what exactly is dino oil? im sorry idk all the terms used on here yet

Acronyms used here, third down from top on first page will give you listing of terms used . Would go the mileage oci wise suggested here. Will take time good you found it now before gets worse.

Nothing is going to make that Bravada last longer. Sorry bro, those vehicles are a ticking time bomb. My neighbors had nothing but problems with them, and when I wouldn't listen to them, I went out and bought one myself. Had it towed away at 120k. Needed an engine rebuild and a transmission replacement due to it spitting a rod; the electronics didn't work, it ran rough and idled even rougher. I don't know how the other people treated it before I bought it, but I only owned it 6 months and it went to the junkyard, R.I.P.

A week later I heard another random story of a co-worker's sister's Bravada being worth more in repairs than the vehicle itself. She said she wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole!

Anyways, sorry for my rant, anytime the Bravada comes up I tell my story. Mobil 5000 is fine for 500 miles, actually most any motor oil would be. Why are you concerned about the engine not being clean? If you want cleansing power for your engine, get a High Mileage oil like Valvoline Max Life or Pennzoil High mileage.

So all s series blazers are ticking time bombs? and the jimmys? both of these have high miles and still run amazing. any car is a timebomb if they are abused.

The Olds Bravada had a worse reputation than its Blazer or Jimmy counterpart because of the AWD system whereas the other two used a more traditional, time tested 4WD system, IIRC. That being said, any car that had some quality issues when newer can be a "ticking time bomb," but after a certain point those issues were either addressed via recall or fixes, or they're no longer problems...

As for the thread, I'd leave the Mobil in for at least 3000 miles and keep an eye on it. The 96' Camry I'm selling was bought with very gunky looking oil in it. I topped it off, then drove it home and changed it with PYB thinking it would dirty quickly--and it hasn't. I suspect it is doing some cleaning, but after 600 miles the oil is still very amber...

Bah that's nothing it ain't gonna care, I've run 10w-40 in a couple Ford modulars without issue...

I'd run the new oil till it was starting to get dark then change, could be 500mi or 3000mi, who knows...
