Notice the words "Formally approved" then the word "suitable".

"Suitable" would really work well with having to work with the MFG and a warranty claim.

So it is a 2 spec oil. Great if you have a Ford or Allison C4 transmission.

Too bad, I need to get something for the Auto in my Subaru that is less than $6 a quart.

Sadly, nothing other then the stealership is available.

You should write to Mobil and ask if they would kindly make 25 different ATFs, inc one "special" for Subaru...and keep the price under $5/q. Makeing sure to certify the fulid with each mfg, who won't mind loosing sales of their own atf.

No Mobil should call it something else than Multi vehicle ATF if it is not going to be "approved" for everything.

People get on Amsoil's case for not having all the ratings but if Mobil does it than all is fine.

Unlike the koolaid drinkers here I would not pay more for Mobil's offering (or anyone else s) than what I could get the ATF from Subaru.

We all know the dealerships make so little markup on their oils.

So is this "all in one" approach becoming more popular?

That good GM study demonstrated why that isn't the best approach, but knowing the cost how many fluids there are, it's understandable.

When will ILSAC get everyone on the same page and make some kind of "super trans fluid" that will work for all the OEM's.

Ford and GM jointly developed a 6 speed transmission. Which they are now using. I bet the GM specs dex vi and the Ford specs Mercon V. Food for thought.

They won't until all OEMs use the same designs, the same materials and the same calibrations (at a minimum).

Exactly what I was thinking.

Outside of BITOG, who services their transmission while in warranty? I'm sure there's a few ..but hardly a significant %% of the rolling public.

I know many who aren't online that service their transmissions even while under warranty. All it takes is '1' transmission failure, or 'downtime' caused by a failed unit to wake up some negligent consumers.

There was a movement to push automakers and transmission suppliers to a 'univerally' compatible ATF. But, like anything, everyone wants to do things their own way. Just be glad we have choices by reputable companies for most specs.
