So oil change time for me now and iv noticed the new mobil filter i have uses louvers insted of holes. The M1-209 i put on last year deffo had holes.
Will louvre version cause flow issues? Winter is upon me and temps will soon be under -5c

LOL!!!!! My favorite when I'm musky fishing is a Poe's Giant Jackpot.

I'm waiting for a big ol' girl to rise from the depths and swallow this one whole.

I looked at several filters I sold today.
I like Fram's TG and Ultra but the TG has small holes with wide spacing. Compare to a louvered Hasting's
or a MG filter and the louvers are crammed in every fraction of a space available and I think this louver issue is pure nonsense unless you get a fluke reject with closed louvers for which a routine inspection would easily reveal.

lol!

I use those for my fiesta. Oddly i think they might be louvre too. They is old batch 10k mile ones

Nothing new for the vast majority of Mobil 1 Extended Performance filters. M1, like many Champ made filters have used a louvered center tube for as long as I've seen them posted. The M1-209 would be have been an exception. Guess the powers that be decided to have it join the majority of other M1s. As long as properly formed, as the M1 I've seen posted here have been, no issue. That being the case, I'd use it with confidence.

Depends if they are formed well or not. Filters with louvers should be inspected before being installed.

Good Louvers

Bad Louvers

Exactly. Louvers in and of themselves are not bad, just when shoddy manufacturing happens and they are not opened up as they should be.

+1 ... I like the design of louvers, but I don't like the fact that shoddy manufacturing can happen much easier with louvers than with holes. We have all seen some examples of bad louver forming in this forum, and that's where the photos I posted came from.

I looked at some of the newer style Purolators at the local store a while back, and found quite a few with what I'd consider bad louvers - many of them were barely opened up. If I look down inside a filter with a louvered center tube, I want to see them all well opened up like the example I posted above. I don't want to guess if there is adequate louver area or not when I see louver slits barely open.
