I have several cars that leak or burn oil. All very high mileage. A 1986 SAAB with 300k+ miles, a 1994 Mercury with 194k miles and a 1996 Chevy with 127k miles. I have tried many different brands of motor oil, including Mobil 1, Valvoline Synthetic, Valvoline All-Climate, Exxon SuperFlo SL, Havoline SL, Mobil SJ and Mobil SL. Out of all, Mobil 1 and Valvoline Synthetic have by far the highest rate of consumption. I finally had to stop using Mobil 1 in my SAAB because both crank seals leaked like crazy. I have found that the lowest consumption by far is with dino Mobil Drive Clean, either SJ or SL. These results are extremely consistent across the 3 cars. With Mobil Drive Clean I have to add only from 1/2 to 1 qt between changes. 3-4 times as much with a synthetic, twice as much with other dino oils.
