I was talking with a guy the other day who owns a touring bus with a Detroit Diesel in it. He speaks highly on Delvac 15w40 as the oil he uses. I have never tried Delvac 15w40 in my 7.3 Powerstroke, just wondering on your thoughts of Delvac 15w40.

Thanks

It is a very good oil and per the ones you listed this would be my ranking.

Rotella T
Delo 400
Delvac
Valvoline Premium Blue

Just my opinion based on experience with these products in the past 40 years.

No pennzoil LL in that mix? Was it discontinued? if so, how did it used to fall in the mix?

Detriot diesel partnerships with Mobil. When we bought Detriots they would always reccommend Mobil Delvac and try to downgrade other oils. Same as Cummins and Valvoline partnership. We used Delvac 15w40 for awhile, it seemed like good oil. Nothing made it stand out as superior though. I think its as good as any oil out there, although we did switch to Pennzoil Longlife and liked it better.

Thanks guys for your replies. I have used Motorcraft, Rotella and now Delo. I have no complaints with any of the oils, just never tried Delvac yet.

The only reason I did not list it is because the OP did not mention it in his list. They still make it and I believe it is called Pennzoil Long Life Gold. If I were to add it to my list it would be right under the Rotella T.

All of todays HDEOs are great [quality oil is quality oil]. I am on the third Delvac 1300 15w40 oil change on my wifes 2002 F250 with a powerstroke and it as it should runs great . I bought the oil when there was rebates on it.

As long as you don't have the HEUI injection, 15W40 Delvac 1300 would be fine-but if you live in an area where it gets cold in the winter, and you don't have the ability to plug in the truck, I would stick with 5W40 in a HEUI PSD in cold weather.

We used straight 40 weight Pennzoil, CD, I think, in the model 71s and model 92(Silver 92s) but when the series 60 came out, we got one of the first ones and my Dad was all nervous about what to use in it and thats when they suggested Mobil, which they went on was specially designed for that engine and so on... anyway, we eventually went back to Pennzoil and it was Long life 15w40 and we used that stuff in everything, three wheelers, vans, motorcycles, cars, trucks etc... all in Pennsylvania with the harsh winters, that why it cracks me up how people think 10w30 is too thick, when we ran everthing on 15w40 for years with no problems.

I use this oil in my beaters (GC in my sports car) because it's a fine oil and Wal-Mart occasionally sells it for $6/gallon. Can't be beat, really.
