I have a 98 Chevy Suburban, 235000 miles, just bought it. Never saw synthetic, and most everyone recommends at this point to NOT put in synthetic. Mobil recommends using Mobil Clean High Mileage 5W30 (that weight is spec'd by mfr). Is this one OK? BTW, I'm using Castrol GTx 5W30 right now.

Thanx for all advice.

Theories I have heard are synthetics MIGHT make seals and what not leak is that the mineral oils might form a layer of varnish, deposits, or I hate to use sludge

, and synthetics might possibly start to clean away the deposits and the syn might start to trickle out. Some have reported leaks after switching to syn after never using it with over 150K, others report no problems.

Try it and see.
Or like others have said, try the high mileage oils. I for one want to try the Valvoline Maxlife syn blend and I only have 4134 miles on my new corolla. I emailed Valvoline/Ashland about any potential problems with running maxlife in a new motor and their reply was:

There is absolutely no problems with using the MaxLife products in a brand new vehicle. The oil is recommended for older vehicles simply because of the seal re-conditioners and extra detergents, but the product also provides maximum protection for any type of vehicle.

The Mobil folks actually told me (of all people) not to use their synthetics. Their tech folks said leaks were possible/probable. The recommended Mobil Clean High Mileage. I can't even find the 5W30 weight of that - some places have 10W30 and 10W40.

I don't know why people told you not to use synthetics.

I never said NOT to use synthetics. I'm just responding to a thread that contains Mobil Clean.

There is no synthetic Mobil-1 product that has the word 'Clean'. That word is/was used on the label of their dinos... as in Drive Clean.

then why does Mobile make M1 HM synthetic?

Assume the mobil clean high mileage is a blend??

I have 6 quarts Mobil Clean 7500 5W-20 that is a syn blend, dont know if the high mileage is a syn blend as well.

Makes me wonder if any of the the HM oils like Pennzoil and Castrol's HM oils will perform as well as Maxlife since they are not blends either.
