Hello!

I remember reading some comments recently about Mobil 5w30 synthetic fairing poorly on tests. I'm not sure if I read it here on bobistheoilguy. I do think that the info was regarding GM using it in the LS1/LS2 engines.

I'm having trouble finding the information with the search engine. Does anyone remember discussions or threads with oil anaylsis, or links to off-site info?

Thanks!

I don't know that it is a matter of it fairing poorly, or some folks had a preference for the higher priced designer oils. (Redlilne, Amsoil, etc) You probably know this but Mobil 1 5w30 is oem fill and recommended on Corvette engines since the C5 model 2001-2004 that I am aware. The alternate owners manual viscosity is 10w30. They both meet the GM 4178M specification.

It all depends on the application. In my 98 S10 4.3L v6, 5w30 does not produce good results. Due to thickness or something else? I cant say. In my mother's 97 plymouth breeze, it does excelently.

This is why UOA is so important to oil choice.
