I've looked at the data sheets but they all seem pretty much the same. I have heard that Mobil makes true synthetics, as in group 4, however I'm not seeing anything to show that on the data sheets. Unless I missed it of course, which is quite possible lol
Delvac 1 5w40 is CI-4/CI-4+ that's not been prominent (if even available) for some years. Delvac 1 ESP 5w40 is a CJ-4 oil primarily intended for the heavy duty market, whereas Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck is for the light/medium duty market. There is some overlap between the two, though. D1 ESP is a better oil than Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck, but depending on your application, it won't matter. Don't confuse these oils with Mobil 1 ESP, for European light-duty vehicles.
CJ-4 oils are perfectly fine for use in pre-DPF trucks and tractors...that myth went away years ago.
Nothing on the data sheet will indicate what base stock is used.
If you want a high quality 5w40 diesel oil, pick whichever you want from Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck, Delvac 1 ESP, Rotella T6 or Chevron Delo.
What is your intended application? That will help the discussion along.
I'm using it in a 01 24v cummins with 251k....I don't do extended drain intervals. I want the syn particularly for the cold weather up here in Watertown, NY
