Yep, that's why many suggest at least one UOA at 10k even on extended drain oils. Short trip M1 EP to death and I doubt you'd want to run it 15k, same for gold bottle Edge or anything similar IMO.

My wife's badly short tripped KIA minivan had gold bottle Edge down to a TBN of only 1.8 in 7k. THAT is why you do UOA's.

Interesting. How many months was it in service? Was this the EDGE advertised for 15k mi?

It was the original gold bottle, not advertised for 15k but still their best lube at the time. I don't remember how long it was in, it wasn't a year though.

I believe Mobil like most everyone includes the magic "up to" words in their 15k verbage.

I could swear i just read the M1 EP guarantee on a jug and the "up to" wasn't there. Just the 15K mile guarantee. I can't be 100% certain though.

What the period of coverage is
The Mobil 1 Extended Performance limited warranty is valid for 15,000 miles or your vehicle’s OEM recommended oil change interval, whichever is longer.

Additional requirements for all Mobil 1 Extended Performance products include:

Oils must be put in service not later than five (5) years from the date of purchase; and
an oil change must be completed every twelve (12) months

This makes it so tempting. Even while under warranty!

+1 At least once at a year. If you make a mistake once, no big deal, if you find its OK, then great.

My only issue is the 7 miles. Its a little short to get the oil to temp, so there may be some condensation issues depending upon how often it gets a longer ride.

But trying it once wont hurt anything in the long run, and the UOA will provide verification of oil or fuel issues.

I stand corrected!

Mobil played it smart though cutting it off at 12 months, they are essentially making sure it doesn't get badly short tripped.

+1 I didn't even think of that.
