So I have a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 with the L86 (6.2L), and it’s been deleted, tuned via HP tuners.
I’ve been doing some research on what oil filler to use for my application. I’m running the Acdelco PF63 as of now, but playing around with Chat GPT it was saying it recommended a more “Premium filter” and gave a few examples (Wix XP, Boss, Mobil 1, and Amsoil) because of the tune causing “higher demand, and temperature”
I’m not gonna run the XP or Boss based off their efficiency when most others filter way better.
I used to be a Fram user long before I ever discovered BITOG, but now seeing the leaking bypass I’m gonna wait to see if they get it fixed, so that eliminates Fram, Amsoil, And Royal Purple at least for now.
With all of that said I’m asking everyone here for just a little insight as to what might be best. I also have a stock 2020 Yukon with the L83 (5.3L) stock for now, and plan to run whatever filter I choose on both vehicles.
I’m also open to other options! I have 3 major auto parts stores in my town, plus 2 Walmart’s.
Thanks!

You don't need anything exotic just because it has a tune, there are thousands of performance cars over 650HP that spec a standard oil filter.
Mobil 1 filters aren't what they used to be either but it looks like the VP racing filter is made like the Royal Purple/Mobil 1/Fram Ultra filters used to be made, might want to look into those.

you do not need a more premium filter due to a tune and disabling DFM.

however, i would reccomend the Mobil 1 off the list you provided IF AND ONLY IF it has holes in the center tube and not louvers.

i would personally reccomend a carquest premium or extended protection.

look up Carquest Premium 84502 C&P to see the many i’ve cut and posted on here, many at 12K+ miles.

Mobil 1 out of the two hands down. The One has all kinds of QC problems including the black glue of death. Carquest Premium or Microgard Select are the most consistent premium filters currently.

Also AI is not a good tool for automotive recommendations. It pulls from all types of internet sources good and bad.

All you need is a MicroGard Select from O'Reilly. That's the easiest way to get a Premium Guard unless you have a CarQuest in town.

The current ACdelco PF63 has a bypass rating of 22 PSI. A good thing IMO. If you change filters I would make sure the filter has a 22 PSI bypass rating. For some reason some filter manufacturers don't published a spec on this. They just state in spec Yes under bypass. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with almost all of this, except holes vs louvers is a nothing burger. You can make a good filter or a bad filter either way. Inspect always before installing.

There’s nothing about a tune that affects the filtration you need.. You still want the highest efficiency you can reasonably achieve within your service interval.

The current “best” filter IMO is the Carguest Premium EP (synthetic media). But other PGI filters and even the Pentius units (inspect for defects) are very efficient and mostly well-made while being fairly cheap.

Sounds like ChatGPT isn't referencing BITOG much, and isn't considering the efficiency in its definition of "Premium filter". And "higher demand and temperature" are pretty nebulous. o_O 😄

You could run an oem filter.

That’s one of the things that I’m 100% making sure of
One thing about Al, well GPT, they always mention BITOG, kind of saves me from starting a Thread!
Congrats. I was digging for more than just “premium filter” I was looking at microns, bypass pressure, and more. I used it to gather a bunch of info at once without going into multiple sites.

Thanks I’m looking into the carquest line now. Thanks for all of your c+p!

It mentioned it as like “yes the Mobil 1 filter is highly praised on BITOG”

Mobil 1 filters switched suppliers in recent months and are top-notch now.

the reason i say this because the Mobil 1 went from louvers to holes when Highline warren started producing them vs louvers for M+H. i have nothing against louvers.
