I know Mobil 1 Extended Performance is good for 15,000 miles but how many miles is regular mobil 1 good for? I searched everywhere and even looked on mobil's website and cannot find a straight answer. Would it be good for 10,000 mile OCI? What about the filter...will a filter be good for the same 10,000 miles? I use a wix filter.

I say 20,000 miles on the M1; why not?
Come on! what car what ambiennt temp what kind of usage? Warranty service, non warranty? Will U do a TBN check at intervals? Can't make recommendation w/o specifics. BITOG is turnig to dust!
The car is a 2000 s10 blazer with 90,000 miles on it. I drive it back and forth to work everyday 50 mile round trip all highway and a few short trips to the store and such. I have owned the truck since 50,000 miles and used mobil clean 5000 and changed the oil every 5,000 miles but with winter around the corner I am looking into longer OCI's. I would like to stick with mobil 1 because I can get a 5qt jug at walmart for $22. Also I live in Mi so I will see pretty cold winters as well as pretty warm summers.

I'm looking at choosing the EP, not for mileage, but because the EP versions of comparable weight seem to be a little thinner when cold (40C)

And there is 0w30 which seems to be a favorite, and some comment that the 0w oils are better built. So, Im torn between 5w-20 EP and 0w-30. Im using 0w-20 now, and a little concerned it may be too thin.

The 0w30 EP does spark my interest as well for the winter. I normaly run 5w30 as called for by GM but it gets pretty cold up here in the winter...I wonder if the 0w30 would offer me a little better start up protection in the winter. Also how does it hold up to compared to the 5w30? What I mean is I heard that some oils shear down to like a 5w20 over time so would the 0w30 shear down quicker than the 5w30?

I've seen that some Mobil oils are III, and some are IV. I wonder if it is true that EP is a IV.
Im 60/40 on using EP, so I'd be using 5w-20 if I did, since they have no 0w yet.

The 0w30 is not an Extended Performance oil, it is an Advanced Fuel Economy oil. It does not have as much detergent as the EP oils do, and should not be run as long.

You are only partly right. Mobil 1 is a blend of grp 3-4-5. All Mobil 1 oils would fall into that catagory only with differing amounts of 3-4-5.
As far as OCIs go. I have used the Mobil 1 10w30 in some very high mileage engines. My sons Ranger has 334,000 miles on Mobil 1 10w30 at 10-13,000 mile OCIs. His truck still runs great.
Also last Dec. I did call Mobil tech and they told me all Mobil 1 oils are in Grp 4.

I thought M1 was group IV based and the EP was group III based because if you look at the bottles the regular M1 meets more factory specs.

That's what I thought also. When EP first came out I believe the scuttlebutt on this site was that EP was a group III with a great additive package
