Mobil 1 vs Castrol EDGE

but 5k on Mobil 1 Extended Performance or 3k-4k on Mobil 1 sure does feel like a real waste to me.
But I would go for the Edge for 2 or 3 OCI's and see what you think, Castrol has never let me down. I would run it but I cannot find it on sale here anywhere! Also I have a nice stash of 0w30 XD3 I need to start using.
For some of us 3-5k miles might be all the car sees in a year's time. Thus the short OCI which aren't really short as they occur once a year.

Our Pontiac G8 version of that car specs nothing higher than a 5w30.
Yep. problem is if you email their lubeline and so on they tell you 0w40 and their online lubefinder recommends 5w30 for some Commodore Models, but the advertising says otherwise. Majority of people are using the 10w60 in their cars here who use it.

Good point on a 1 year OCI.
I would take the chance on the EDGE on an OCI like that for sure then (on the sale price), if a person demands a good syn oil. It is advertised as better for wear not extended drains. That would make me sleep better at night. Heck I bought XD3 for a slightly modified toyota 22RE (RV cam and stiffer valve springs) and it will be put back on a 1 year OCI after the auto-rx run.

They are on the cutting edge of lubricant research and development, and set the standard for everyone else to live up to. For my money, why use anything else? I know that's all my Corvette will ever see.

This is a point that's very hard to disagree with. From the mid-1980s until I discovered GC in 04, I was an unbending adherent to the M1 faith. Now, though I still have a good bit of green GC on hand, I'm almost out of uses for it (the Prius, pressure washer, generator, etc...). I'm probably headed back to M1 myself. It's the only OTC 0w-20 so far, meaning I can get it right at Walmart or AZ (and won't end up embroiled in a silly [censored] contest about shipping cost...
). Other than these odd recurrent iron questions, which I'm convinced are meaningless, M1 has been a long-time, consistent performer. To borrow one of my favorite Terminator lines, "I'll be back."
If and when CE appears in a 0w-20, for $1.50 less per quart, I might consider it...

You're talking one fine syn oil vs another in presumably a typical street application. Go with whatever is cheaper.

And Castrol has not proven itself? How long has Edge been out in other parts of the world other than North America? I am not knocking M1 at all, my car will see its AFE 0W-20 this winter because it's cold weather specs are the best out there.

It is wierd to have a super-premium oil like Edge come in 10w30. Is it available In Europe that way? Similar Euro products, like SLX Pro are all 5w30.
Btw- I would try Edge if I bought oil for every change, but I own a stash of PP that could float a VW Beetle.
