After viewing the numbers, it appears the M1 15w-50 shears most of the time to a 40 weight oil. A few of the tests showed it staying in the 50 range. Curious to see who here uses that weight, and with what success. BTW I have a 280zx, thinking of using a thicker oil, but it'll run 10w30 just fine. I realize running diesel oil is also a good option.

A few of the recent SM version of 15w-50 UOA's do show it shearing often. It used to be a PAO/Ester based oil but now it's a Group III/V blend. The HT/HS is also a lot lower than it used to be. (5.1 vs 4.2?). I believe the quality of Mobil 1 in all viscosities has dropped quite a bit.

Yes, I do realize Mobil changed the base stocks, sadly. Although I do like the moly and zinc levels.

Why is this posted in the UOA section?

I am using a blend of Mobil 1 5w30 EP and the 15w-50 EP with great success. You can check it out on my 1997 Honda Accord. Don't quite understand all the mobil 1 bashing. Just hope it helps the price come down somehow.
