Noticed the other day that Mobil 1 changed the data sheet for Extended Performance 0W-20 and the 100KV is at 8.3 now instead of 8.8.

Realisticly so many engines take 4.5, 5, 6.5 quarts or more that it only makes sense to not only purchase what you need today but at least 1-2 oil changes. In this way you have top off oil and oil for other vechiles you might not be changing today, seasonal equipment like snow blower, riding lawn mower, push mower etc....
Motor oil is a consumable for anyone that operates and ICE. No one goes tot he store and purchases just enough milk, oil, water and butter for today so why do that with motor oil. Not saying you need to hoard oil but is it really that big of a deal to have 2-3 oil changes worth of oil on hand at any given moment? I take care of at least 5 different family members vechiles you think I have time to drop what I am doing and run to the store every time I want to do something as mundane and pedestrain as an oil change???? Same thing goes for oil filters, break pads etc....
Think ahead and plan ahead! Unless you trade in your car every 6 months you will need these items! I am imagines guys that have never bought a roll of toilet paper in their life just depending on what comes in their MRE's to wipe with! You wont be eating MRE's forever so maybe some forsight and planning are in order!

Just for the record, my car and any other Toyota with 2AR-FE engine (Camry, RAV4) has a variable displacement (VD) oil pump, not a positive displacement (PD) one.
Meaning - it supplies different oil pressures regardless of engine speed. That's how it compensates for lower grade oils like 0W-20 by increasing the oil pressure at lower RPM.

Many (most?) of the VD pumps just have a variable location "chamber" that adjusts the amount of maximum permitted oil pressure, like a variable relief. The pumps themselves are still a gear-type PD unit.

It would be profoundly stupid not to use a PD pump.

Yeah, but in the guy's defense, these VD pumps do seem to confuse a lot of people, that's why we seem to have endless discussions on them
