TBN 12.5

LAB VOA COMMENTS: You didn't let us in on the grade for this Mobil 1 oil. The viscosity found for this sample
would be appropriate for the 10w30 grade, but legal for the 5w30 grade too. No moisture found in this
sample though a trace of insolubles did show up from the centrifuge test. They shouldn't be there but we
doubt they will hurt anything. It is not unusual to find a trace of insolubles in an unused oil. The TBN for
this sample was 12.5, a high reading, and typical of this product.

I really don't understand how they come to this conclusion based on these test results. Unless they test the cold cranking ability of this oil, there is no way they could differentiate between a 0w30, 5w30 or 10w30 here.

I would say the Mobil 1 0w30 has a high Viscoscity for the Mobil 1 30 weight oils. Usually, the Mobil 1 30 weights are on the low side of the weight. I am beginning to think that the 0W30 is my next oil for my Acura Integra. -Joe

Joe.
After a 7300 mile run on the 10/30 SS I put the 0/30 SS in our Hiway driven only commuter car just yesterday. No start-up noise or other noises at all that I have heard about using this oil. I will though keep an eye on consumption. The 10/30 did A-OK in that regard

Dragboat, keep us posted on the performance of the 0W30. It may be a few months before I get a chance to put in m my Integra. I look forward to seeing the used oil analysis of that oil. -Joe

Dragboat, I don't know exactly what you've heard, but my experience with the 0w30 has been that it causes significantly less start up noise (even in Texas) than the trisyn 5-30 or the Amsoil 5W-20. Until my used oil analysis I would have thought that it was due to the moly, but since so little got absorbed (see Legend used oil analysis) I now have to think it's either the 0W weight or the additive package.
