I've been running Mobil 1 5w-20 in my 2003 Mazda 6i 2.3L for several months and it's been working great. now that Summer is on it's way, bringing temperatures of 85+ degrees, should I switch to a heavier weight Mobil 1? Mazda recommends 5w-20 for this engine, but the synthetic stuff seems pretty thin. Should I go with 5w30 instead??

5w-20's have been thoroughly tested in all extremes, hot and cold. Add to the fact that it was tested in temps much hotter than 85 while pulling heavy loads and the engine and oil were perfectly fine. I read this somewhere online about how Ford tested the 5w-20's before, during and after they made the switch to the 20 wt. You can use it year round with no worries.

Nope, stick with Mobil 1 5w-20 or any 5w-20. The engineers that designed your car know more than we do.

On a modern fuel injected car, you can run the factory recommended weight all year long.
5w20 oils have proven to perform well in hot temps.

Now if your car was Turbocharged running 20 PSI of boost, that would be a different story.
