Here is the
GF-4 vs. GF-5 comparison chart (industry standard, not Mobil 1):
As you see in the chart, in some areas there is an improvement in GF-5 and in other areas there is no change but in no area there is downgrade.
I think most oils have changed their formulations in the transition to GF-5. It's unlikely for a given oil that there is any significant downgrade in any of the performance criteria because of the change in the formula, but in any case, it would still have to meet both GF-4 and GF-5.
Note in particular that there is
no change in the wear-protection industry standard from GF-4 to GF-5 (no change including the ZDDP level as well).
