Mobil 1 + Redline + VSOT +LC20

What do you guys think of this mix?

3 qts Mobil 1 + 1 qt Redline + 4oz VSOT + 4oz LC20 and FP60 in the fuel at 1 oz to/5 gal


....or,

3.5 qts Mobil + .5 qt Redline + 4oz VSOT + 4oz LC20 and FP60 in the fuel at 1 oz to/5 gal

The Mobil 1 would be Extended Performance:

-5w30 + Redline 5w30

-10W-30 + Redline 10w30


or Mobil 1:

-5W-20 + Redline 5W-20

or Mobil 1 Truck and SUV 5W-40 + Redline 5W-40

My opinion, based on what I've read here at BITOG is

1. Use straight up Redline, along with FP60

or

2. Use M1 + LC20 along with FP60

Read around, you'll see that some boffins here recommend leaving Redline well enough alone, while M1 can enjoy the extra antioxidative power of LC20.

Sounds like good advice! I'm sort of in the mood to see if there's any advantage to these brews...but I wouldn't be suprised if you're right.

I'd use LC, maybe a little VSOT and leave the Redline out. Redline doesn't seem to be a good add for M1 though it looks good with some other oils.

OK, point taken.

How about if I stick with:

- Mobil 1 [5W-20, 5w30, 10w30, 5W-40].......... + 4oz VSOT + 4oz LC20 and FP60 in the fuel at 1 oz to/5 gal

-Redline [5W-20, 5w30, 10w30, 5W-40].......... + 4oz VSOT + 4oz LC20 and FP60 in the fuel at 1 oz to/5 gal

And Trop Arctic, Motorcraft, Havoline [5W-20, 5w30, 10w30, 10W-40] or Delo 400 15w40 ........... + 1 qt Redline + 4oz VSOT + 4oz LC20 and FP60 in the fuel at 1 oz to/5 gal

I would have a problem buying $7.00 per quart oil that is in need of doctoring with addidives.

I'm sure that Redline would have a problem with me doctoring their excellent base stock and well formulated additve pack. LOL

But that's what some of us are interested in, is learning more about this subject and try to do a better job. Sometimes you have to experiment to learn.

At this point I think that Auto-RX treatments work and VSOT/LC20/FP60 use improves mpg and hopefully provide lower cost of ownership, better driveability, and longer term service.

Redline is worth every penny and has worked well for me for years WITHOUT additives. I just want to see if I can do even better.

Until a new oil spec comes out, how could Redline, Mobil 1, or Amsoil do much better?

They already use great basestocks and additive packs and try to make top performing products that are safe, meet specs, are affordable and profitable, and appeal to a wide range of customers.

Yes and maybe I'll find out that adding the VSOT to Redline is a waste or counter productive.

The old BMW came around when I put in a fresh fill of Redline 10W-40 and I presume the ring packs cleaned up.

I wanted to try this mix, so I can't say what did what in the BMW .

I got the same results in every car I've tried it in... with every oil.... Redline, Mobil 1, Mobil 1 Extended Performance, Mobil 7500, High Mileage conventional oils, HDEO, or unknown oil.


Maybe the LC20 and FP60 get all the credit... or maybe adding 4 oz of VSOT works well with LC20?
