Mobil 1 or Motorcraft Blend?

For a 4.6 3v motor which is driven in the winter. Temps down to -20F. Read about how good MC 5W20 is regarded.

Any benefit to running Mobil 1 5W20 or is the MC 5W20 ok?

Brain spinning trying to make sense out of some threads, base stock, level 2, level 3.

Both fine oils. The Mobil 1 will handle the -20F a little better than the Motorcraft. How many miles on the car and how often do you change the oil?

Why not use Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w20? My 07 GT loves it.

I do not think it is going to matter much either way really. If anything I would probably try Mobil 1 0W20 if I knew killer cold weather was in store and a XW20 was approved for my vechile. A 0W20 will make a significant difference in sub zero weather. Cold crank performance is one of the first things to decline with use so the greater the cushion and the more percentage of the oil that is truly synthetic the better off you will be. To my understanding youcan make a 5W20 with a blend but a 0W20 has to be 100% synthetic.

11,600 miles

Change every 5k or so

Reason I'm asking is MC has great reviews. Been running M1 during the rest of the year. If there is no significant benefit to running M1in the winter, I'll just spend less. But I do not want to sacrifice the motor to save a few $$.

you can you use either oil and there will be no sacrificing an engine. both are great and both will treat you well

MC 5w20 has phenomenal cold properties. all 5w20 already is group 2+, and MC is Semi Synthetic so 2+/3. -20F is nothing, for either oil.

MC will be fine from what I read here for shorter OCIs. The M1 will be better for the long haul and somewhat easier starting in extreme cold.

Are you planning on running the MC in the winter only, then M1 the rest of the year or are you wanting to switch to MC year-round?

Personally, if I'm running M1 the rest of the year, then I'd run it in the winter, as well. They are both good oils but I've spent eight years in central Illinois winters and unless my car was in a heated garage, the more full syn, the better.

I'd run the M1 year round. IMHO, you get MORE benefit running M1 in the winter than the summer, with your temperatures.

It is a daily driver

Val5W20/filter 468mi - not a fan of engine break in with syn. Could be wrong though.
MC 5w20/filter 1905mi - Ran it MC for a while and thought it must not be that good for the
$. Looks like that was incorrect.
Mobil 1 5w20/filter 4070mi
Mobil 1 5w20/filter 9594mi

I suppose I could go longer with the Mobil 1 but old habits are hard to break.

Probably another 2k this year.

The car is garaged but not heated. Outside at work.

I've run M1 since it had 4k miles, year round. And have run M1 in all of my other cars over the years. But if there is something as good (MC) at half the cost, I'll switch.

Seems like MC is pretty good stuff. Is there much benefit to running M1 over MC for as often as I change it?

I ran Motorcraft 5W-20 synblend through most of a Montana winter and my car liked it.

Then Motorcraft, Pennzoil or Castrol GTX would be perfect. You don't need the M1 for peace of mind unless you're towing or hauling heavy loads at high speeds.
