A friend of mine recently changed the oil in his wife's 1994 Jaguar 12 cylinder engine before putting the car away for the winter. She drives it only about 1,000 miles a year. He used Mobil 1 10w30 oil and said it wouldn't need to be changed again for years. I know it's good (and very expensive) oil but with only 1,000 miles a year, does it really need to be changed only every five years or so?

Problem is that if there is any coolant leak-having that oil in there would cause problems. If all were normal and the car was thoroughly warmed every time it was run it would be O.K. Also an oil analysis would be good.

At only 1000 miles per year that engine will never wear out in their lifetime, even if they only changed the oil once every 5 years.

1999 Porsche Boxster, 9,000 miles and 5 years on the factory fill and the used oil analysis came back AOK. Terry did the used oil analysis. The factory fill was European Mobil 1 5W-40. Of course the Boxster holds almost 9 quarts which probably helped

. My BiL bought the car used and had the oil changed and did the used oil analysis at that time.

I'm going to do a used oil analysis on Schaeffer's Blend 5w30 that was in my 1996 Contour. It was changed in Oct. The OCI was 18 months. The mileage was about 5,000. I'll post the results in the used oil analysis section.
