Hey guys,
I am in desperate need of some help. See my Grandfather is losing his battle to cancer as I write this and his wishes are to be buried in a Mobil 1 oil can ( because it's the oil they use in racing ). I cannot find any oil cans bigger than one quart, if anyone one knows anywhere I can find something larger please let me know. Even if you can send me in the right direction that would help me so much, he made the point that he has to be buired in this specific can and I will do anything to follow through with his wishes. So again please if anyone has any information please, please help me out.

Thanks so much,
Lauren

Call a bulk distributor; I have a quaker state can in my garage but it's only about 3 feet tall (25 gallon ish size) and probably held grease not oil. It won't fit an adult human but a troll could probably slither in.

They do make mobil 1 grease, so you never know. They put the info on a paper label; the cans are generically printed. If you cremate him the options open up.

If he was to be cremated he might fit in the 1qt can. Collectors may not wish to give up their classic oil cans, though - even for Granpa. Now, something bigger would be called a BBL.

Have a friend who bought a casket for his old knucklehead Harley, and is to be buried next to him, so he has something to ride in the afterlife. There are all kinds out there.

I had an uncle that wanted to be buried in a casket made of copper. Well he got a wooden casket painted copper and a 2" piece of copper tubing in his hand. Sometimes you just have to settle for a little less.

Mobil used to sell their oil in 5 gallon steel cans to the farmers or construction outfits. When the can was empty, farmers would reuse the can to haul gas or diesel in. These occasionally come up on ebay. Pretty sure I would have an old one around here somewhere. Not that your grandfather would want to be buried in an old, beat up gas can, I'm just sayin. Now the oil is sold in 5 gallon plastic buckets. If you are serious about this, contact a Mobil oil distributor or keep looking on ebay.

A 55 gallon drum! Bulk distributors have got to have them!
Buying one full is going to cost you a fortune though.
And what are you going to store all that oil in?

Perhaps you can find one empty and have it steam cleaned.
Otherwise the EPA is going to get all over you.

I guess I wasn't clear - he is going to be creamted and then buried in a oil can. He sister is buried in a two pound coffee can and she just fit so it has to be a couple quarts big or a gallon. I am hoping to get the metal cans but if I cannot find anything I might have to buy new oil to use the container but the metal can is our first choice and what wiukd mean the most.

I only have 1 qt cans from the original '70s M1 era.

But if you contact XOM directly, perhaps they might help. I'm sure they would do everything possible.

I know there are some of their employees/retirees that hang out here who can point you in the right direction.

I think this is the best advice.

Now that's hilarious!

I hope the OP and his grandfather have a sense of humor too.

Apparently gear oil is sold by the 120 lb can. A bit big for cremains, a bit small for a cadaver. Good luck in your search.
