In the last two weeks, I have acquired a new Echo Leaf Blower and I finally located and purchased some Mobil 1 MX2T (yes, the old bottles before being renamed Racing 2T). I've done a search here, and haven't found the info I'm looking for.

My two questions are:

Is it okay to use the MX2T in a brand new piece of equipment? I also bought a new string trimmer at the end of September and it is hardly broken in. When can I make the switch over?

I plan on following the manufacturer's spec for the mix ratio (50:1) but in my search I found several others using a different ratio. Should I stick with the recommendation for both of these new pieces of equipment?

Thanks.

should be ok to use, and yes to sticking with 50:1 if its recommended for them both, means only one can of mix.

I've used Ultron and Amsoil synthetic 2-cycle oils for 28 years at 100:1. If Mobil's MX2T is 100:1 rated then I would go with that. You have less port blocking, plug fouling, smoking, and generally better performance at 100:1. I have never worn out a piece of equipment yet using 100:1.

There is no special oil requirement for breaking in a 2-stroke. Use the MX2T on your new equipment. The MX2T should be just fine at 50:1. Some will argue to go to 40:1 or lower. Personally, I use this oil at a rate of 3 ounces per gallon, which comes out to about 42:1. I only do this because it is easy to measure. I also use the Amsoil Saber at 85:1. I go back and forth just for the fun of it. Both have performed very well for me. In fact after 5 years of Amsoil at 100:1 in my Homelite leaf blower, the cheap engine was still like new. Everything else was a P0S however. Doesn’t pay to buy cheap. Replaced it with a Stihl.

dgreen, I run MX2T at 32 to 1 because that is what I use in my Lawn Boys and all my other 50 to 1 equiptment. It won't hurt to run the richer mix in the 50 to 1 equiptment, as Mobil One is so clean. I have had professional lawn care folks and long time small engine sales and repair shops recomend more oil in the mix than the 50 to 1 that the manufacturer states. These people were selling, repairing, and using high end brands and were long term users. I took their advise and have never had an oil related problem in many years of use. I and they believe that 50 to 1 is a product of the EPA more than the manufacturers desire to reduce oil usage, If you think about it most people use the manufacturers oil and they would have nothing to gain from the customer using less. Engines are a combination of finely machined and mated surfaces that will not survive without an oil film to protect them, give your engine the oil it needs and it will serve you well. I also beleive that there are two schools of thought on the type of synthetic two-cycle oil being used today, the first is the less is more group like Amsoil, and Opti-2. The other is the high peformance group like the Mobil One camp, the first group uses ultra high ratios like the 100 to 1 that some are using. This group thinks that less is better because less oil is present to cause port clogging, spark plug fouling, ring sticking, and less smoking. They achive this by designing their oil to STAY on hot engine parts longer than standard oil does, the drawback is that this oil doesn't brake down as well and can be more difficult to remove from the engine by the detergent additives and may cause more deposits. Mobil One is designed to flow through the engine doing a fantastic job of reducing friction along the way and then out the exhaust, It also contains powerful detergents to deal with any deposits along the way. Which one is better? That's up to you to decide, however I don't know of any racers that use high ratio fuel mixes in there engines. Good luck with your machines.

Your 50:1 equipment will do fine at 32:1, especially with the MX2T. That stuff is extremely clean. My LawnBoy is now 6 years old, and has had a steady diet of the stuff. I also have an Echo trimmer, and a cheap Sears blower. All are fine. Mix away!
