Mobil 1 high detergent content?

So does anyone know if Mobil 1 contains a higher concentration of detergents or dispersants than the other leading Group IV synthetic?

I also asked him how Amsoil ATF manages to meet Mercon, Mercon-V, ATF+3, and ATF+4 when ATF+4 is a HIGHLY friction modified ATF whereas ATF+3, Mercon-V, and Mercon are less friction modified.

Several ATFs are recommended by their makers for those services...Schaeffer's #204SAT, Pennzoil Multi-Vehicle ATF, and others. It is some kind of magic crystals the additive makers sell. In any case, Amsoil ATF has been used for all those applications with general success for years. I'm not an Amsoil fan, but this product of theirs (and others) does work well.

From Metroplex; I questioned him about why Amsoil claimed their 5W-40 met a non-existing Mercedes spec and removed the claim when I presented them with the info that it didn't exist. I also asked him how Amsoil ATF manages to meet Mercon, Mercon-V, ATF+3, and ATF+4 when ATF+4 is a HIGHLY friction modified ATF whereas ATF+3, Mercon-V, and Mercon are less friction modified.

Can anyone here answer this question?

Winston,

The Amsoil Universal synthetic ATF uses an additive chemstry containing several types of "selective" friction modifiers, hence it performs differently depending on the type of clutch pack materials used in the transmission. From practical experience I can tell you it works just fine in ATF +4 applications, as well as in Dexron and Mercon/Mercon V applications.

Amsoil did come out with a second, "ATF +4 only" fluid about five years back intended for Chrysler/Jeep transmissions. However it was on the market less than a year before they figured out a way to get ATF +4 performance out of their Dexron/Mercon fluid. Had they not been satisfied with the performance of their Universal Fluid in these applications, they simply would have continued to blend both fluids. I had to opportunity to sell some of this ATF +4 only fluid while it was on the market and it did an excellent job of eliminating the shudder in these four speed Chrysler transmissions, during the 3-4 shift at light throttle.

Amsoils main additive supplier is Lubrizol, who also supplies the add pack for the OEM Fluid.
