Couldn't find a thread on this with a few minute search so, I'm wondering, what's the verdict on M1 EP oils? I know there is a shortage of the regular 10W30 among other grades so last time I was at Wal-mart I could only find 10W30 "EP" M1 oils. Assuming I keep a regular interval (<5000 miles or so) is there any reason this oil would protect or lube any less than the regular M1? Car is a Mitsubishi Evolution VIII if it matters.

Complete waste if you are only running it to 5k...it will do 10k easily. Its designed to run longer intervals.

Are these the ones that say 15k on the bottle? I think less than 1$ more than regular Mobil 1, so if 5k on that then at least that on the EP. If that is all the Mobil present in the weight you want then use it, but can go longer that the normal stuff.

They have M1 10W30 regular-style, I mean, it exists. But the plant that produces it has major supply issues right now so it is tough to find. The EP stuff is all I could find at Wally world.

I guess I will just use the EP this change but treat it like regular oil (5K). Certainly can't hurt. I drive 5K a year on it so the frequency of oil changes doesn't really bother me.

My brother has an EVO IV RS and he uses 5w40 Royal Purple. He drives a lot and hasn't had a single issue. Believe me when I say he's tweaked it a little bit.

I've only tweaked mine a bit, putting down about 300awhp so nothing crazy. The engines are pretty stout so I'm not too worried - just wondering if the EP has any bad additives or bad detergent packages that could cause premature wear.

You can always go for the RP that was mentioned earlier. The Walmart here sells it for a lil over $6 a quart.

If you like Mobil1, the 10w30 High Mileage version seems really stout with it meeting the ACEA A3 Euro performance spec (if available)....

I can't believe nobody has brought up Syntec 0w30 aka German Castrol.

It's fairly stout.

And to answer your question ivan: The additive packs are far from screwing anything up in the EP formula.
