Cheers! We agree on something. 4 cylinders do appear to be "easier" on oils than V motors.

Mobil 1 (which has skin in the game with their guarantees, their reputation, and with the engineers job on the line) says use "any filter" for the FULL 15k / 1 yr. Mobil 1 has been touting that guarantee for many years now and haven't retracted one dot or comma.

Well blow me down. I just did a little light reading on Mobil 1 Extended Performance FAQ page - at least I can shoot myself down before someone else does. The following from Mobil 1 Extended Performance FAQ -

"If I go longer between oil change intervals, do I need to change my oil filter more frequently? Or do I need a special filter?

Continue to change your oil filter when you change your engine oil. Special filters or more frequent oil filter changes are not required;, however, some low quality filters may not be capable of protecting your engine throughout an extended oil change interval."

Don't recall this the last time I read the FAQ. Regularly peruse the FAQ or fall behind.

Scare tactic to push the Mobil 1 filter?

Woo,Pig. Get your Mobil 1 Extended Performance at AZ. 5 quarts and an Mobil 1 filter for $32. On sale about 1x per month.

Hookem Horns! the pertinent vehicle - the Mazda 6 - runs a cartridge filter (which I all but loath).

(I do however loath TU)
