I went to purchase a Mobil 1 Extended Performance filter at Napa the other day for my Wifes Bravada and I blow into the filters to make sure the ADBV is sealing correctly because Bravada's have a horizontally mounted external filter and I found 4 leakers before I found one that seals correctly...is this a common problem with Mobil 1 filters? I usually run Conventional oil and Napa Gold filters for 5,000 miles and never found a leaking Napa Gold. I am going to do extended OCI's so I bought Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil and thought I would use their filter as well but now I am second guessing the quality of their filters.

Thats a good way to contaminate your filter with HOH condensate. Air is not oil. How do the other shoppers react to you 'getting personal' with the filter?

Yes, it's very hard to find one of these that seals properly out of the box.
Hopefully, they will start to seal when they get oiled and most probably do. But not all.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil has a pretty good add pack that will take care of that...lol! I have to test filters this way because the wife dont care if it starts bone dry she is a gas and go woman...as long as it has gas and it starts she thinks everything is good to go! She ruined the motor in her van a few years ago because of this exact same problem.

Some people can't change their behaviors. My wife's the same way. You could tell her that she was heading for a cliff (metaphorically speaking) and repeatedly warn her. It wouldn't alter her heading. Some still think that there's magic ..or don't associate the plummet with the action. I think child bearing does it to some. The process can drive you to a neurotic state where disruptions to your routine cause anxiety. The more neurotic ..the harder it is to get them to see outside of the patterned existence bubble. The only thing worse is coupling that with a "just throw money at it to make it go away" coping mechanism when they do crash. This too is due to the onset of anxiety from having their "mission" disturbed/disrupted.

Awareness of what makes one filter worth buying and another not -- $5.00 value.

Catching a BITOG member "blowing" a filter in a car parts store -- priceless.

Take a deep breath, and move on.
