Mobil 1 Extended Performance doesn't meet Honda specs?

Unless your owner's manual specifically calls out the HTO-06 specification for 5w30, imho, ANY Mobil 1 at the recommended viscosity is just fine. For grins, I just reviewed the 2005 Accord onwer's manual I found on the Honda site and see nothing about HTO-06. It simply states to use API licensed motor oil blah blah.

There are many posters on this site, far more experienced than I, who use various favors of Mobil 1 in their Hondas. That's what I think.

5w30 was probably the only Mobil 1 oil that was submitted for that test.

Has nothing to do with "Compatible"

IIRC that is their turbo test.. so you wouldnt seek that certification on 0w20 as no Hondas that require 0w20 require HTO-06

Thanks for the clarification. I'm not an oil expert, but I've seen numerous analyses from Honda owners that had great results.

How's my reasoning flawed if I only asked a question?

Thanks for the info. My plan is to go with Mobil 1 Extended Performance from now on though. I've seen enough analyses by Honda owners that show great results.
 
As others have suggested, no current Hondas require the HTO-6 specification and no current Hondas require 5w30. The HTO-6 spec was for an older generation of Honda turbocharged engines; Honda's new 1.5 liter turbos spec 0w-20, which by definition won't meet HTO-6.
 
My take is among other criteria and benchmarks HTO-06 must also be SAE 5W30, because I've not seen HTO-06 outside of 5W30...I'm running it in my Honda.

Nah just kidding. It ran just fine for 200,000 miles and will continue well past that. Honda engines are rated the most-reliable engines in the world.

That I know. I was just wondering why it didn't "meet" Honda specs, as I knew that many run mobil 1 with great success.

It's not any more paranoia than those who won't buy oil without a foil seal or filters that only have a certain type of holes......with no burrs.

Does Olive Extra Virgin count?

Agreed though. The difference is usually seen north of 200k.
 
Maybe since if imported it does not have to be pure olive oil - but if made in the US it does. Your tax dollars at work.
 
When HTO-06 came out the oils available weren't quite as advanced as they are now. It is a turbo deposit test that Honda had determined was necessary. Now, here on bitog, we have used oil analysis with V6 Ecoboost engines running lots of miles on conventional oil and doing just fine. HTO-06 is a fine test and nowadays many oils COULD meet it if they wanted to, they're just not going to waste the money. I can't think of a manufacturer that currently lists it as a requirement.
 
Actually Honda engines were rated the most reliable in the 80's but these days some of them are really bad there have been a number of class action lawsuits Honda lost.. When i had the engine shop we did a ton of the Honda engines..
 
Some dealers kept a tech on nothing but transmissions ... if I had interest in buying Japanese - it'd be Toyota any day.
 
be interesting to know what came first, Honda/Acura HTO-06 spec or Mobil 1 5w30 HTO-06 spec formulation.
