Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20?

Just walked in autozone looking for more oil clearance deals. On the shelf was Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20!! Of course, they had it listed as $39.99/5.1 quart jug. More than the Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w20 right next to it?

Is there a difference or just a marketing ploy? Because AFE has been shown to be a fairly long drain oil already...

AZ seems to price their oils high unless they're on sale. That's steep! Good oil but not that good.

I think I remember seeing someone mention something about it on here recently, I vaguely remember a tech spec Mobil sheet showing 0W-20, 5W-20, 5w30 and 10w30 EP.

I moved away from Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w20 to Amsoil 0W-20 Signature Series. Looking at the Specs of the new 0W-20EP, and comparing them to the Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w20 and AMSOIL Signature Series 0w20, I'm starting to think about the possibility of switching to the new 0W-20EP from Mobil.

The Flashpoint of EP is quite a bit higher than AFE - 235(EP) vs. 224 (AFE), vs. 232 (Amsoil)

Viscosity Index: 173 (EP), 173 (AFE), 170 (Amsoil)

Pour Point: -54(EP), Unspecified (AFE), -53(Amsoil)

I would love to know the NOACK of these Mobil 1 oils, but they don't specify it.

Interestingly, Mobil does not specify the MRV of 0W-20EP, but they do on the AFE version.

I know we're talking about pretty trivial differences here, but this *is* BITOG, right?

Also - Mobil takes a different approach with their additive package, as well. I note that Mobil uses less Phosphorus and Zinc than Amsoil. The Amsoil also has more Moly in it as well.

All three oils are excellent - but what are your thoughts on these three?

This winter has me thinking of MRV more than I normally do.
We have been having a lot of subzero weather here.......-16F a few mornings gets one thinking of MRV values.

News to me. But then again when I buy oil I head right to the AFE 0w-xx oils when they're on some kind of sale.

You could also just wait for Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w20 with the GTL base oils.

Amsoil is great, it's just a very tough sell due to such strong competition. Those that have been following the lube market the last 14 years have clearly seen the performance gap close between boutique and off the shelf brands. It used to be only Mobil 1 could match that performance level and now you have multiple brands that are all excellent and meeting most of the same specs. I've stuck with M1 mainly for their consistency (always at the top) and marketing. I use other brands as well.
